2nd gear in Audi A4 2.5 TDI qtro sport

    Hi All!

I've had my audi for 9 months now and I always wanted to find out if the following is normal.

It only changes smoothly from 1st to 2nd gear if the car is moving quite slowly. With other cars, I can usually accelerate to a faster speed before changing to the 2nd. So it seems that the 1st gear in my Audi is just to get the car moving and if I change to the 2nd, say at the speed of around 15 mph, the car slows down, when the clutch is released.
is this normal? anything can be done? and generally it is quite unforgiving if the clutch is released not carefully and slowly, not saying I just drop it.

    Thanks

    2003 2.5 TDi Q sport Avant....

Nothing wrong with that matey...1st & 2nd are pretty low.....and seem (as you say) just to get the car going........but in 3rd and 4th it should start to fly....
I wish 1st and 2nd were a touch higher geared myself...
Whats the mileage on your car ? My clutch is fine but its only done 35K....I will do a test tonite to see if my car does as yours does

Thaks for letting me know. 53.5k mileage, 2001 - B6 saloon.

Two other things i'd like to mention: it's diesel is quite loud and the turbo takes its time before it kicks in, but then this is probably normal. Am i right? I love the sound of the whistling sound of that turbo.

Cold it be that its a case of the gearbox oil being low or just cold when this happens?

    I've got a 65k 2003 Quattro (albeit only a 1.9) and I've not experienced the same re 1st > 2nd

clutch is unforgiving on mine too in 1st - guess this is just a case of the set up of the car ?

My diesel is relatively loud but not irritatingly so - I just accept it's a diesel

Finally, turbo lag - get a bit of it but might just be a bit more notivcable with yours having more power - I noticed it more on my 130bhp Golf than the A4 that used to get going then kick you in the back
