I'm due to pick up my 2004 cab. this friday. I want to fit a sat nav unit but am getting lost with all the audi codes. Which model numbers will fit? Obviously I want to go as new as poss, but do the later B7 units fit?
Thanks in advance.

Any European A4 B6/B7 RNS-E will be fine.

Nice one thanks! just missed one on fleabay. damn

Issac, you seem to know a bit about these, is Audi main dealer the only place where i can get fleaced for a current nav dvd to replace my 2004 version? Also what is involved in making mine play dvd's?

You can get what are called "original" discs on fleabay which im sure would be much cheaper than the stealers. I have heard of people contacting Audi UK customer services and being sent a freebie updated version, perhaps worth a shot dropping them an email explaining a sob story about how your existing disc is begining to play up etc etc!

The RNS-e unit itself cant play normal DVD's so you need to plug in a seperate DVD player using a cable adapter. Saw a few on fleabay last night around the £100 mark which you just plug one end into the back of the RNS-e and the other end has red, white & yellow phono plugs to plug into any external source you fancy, dvd player, games consol etc etc.

As Nicky says the RNS-E will not play DVD's. You need a multimedia adapter and an external DVD player.

Nav DVD's can be got from Audi, Ebay or downloaded from the internet if you know where to look. Or if you know someone with a dual layer DVD burner then you could always get a 'back-up' copy!

i have fitted a dvd and the interface which i got off the bay for £90.
once fitted then you need to have VIM activated (vehicle in motion ) which i had done by a guy on here known as s8craig, a great very knowledgeable bloke.
do you have the double din stereo already.

You dont actually need the "Video In Motion" hack doing unless you want to view DVD's on the move. It will work fine when the car is not moving.

VIM hack is free from navplus:icon_thumright:

is it? do you need vagcom?

as for the vim, i didnt want to be restricted to as and when, got to kids who love it and im planning to fit screens in the headrests soon.

Yes all the info for applying the VIM hack is on navplus. You do need access to a proper version of VAG-COM though.

You'll have to connect them to the video output from the DVD player - because the RNS-E doesn't have a video output. So you don't need the VIM hack for the headrest screens to work while moving.

You only need the VIM hack to make video on the RNS-E screen visible while moving...

Is it easy to retrofit ANY of the Sat Nav's, or do the later ones (ie 2007) require modifying to make them fit?

As long as you've got a double-din slot they all will fit as they're the same size.
