I have a 1.8t (190) & noticed that the oil was a bit low.

I bought 0 - 40 castrol edge( i know i should of refered to the forum first!)

I have no idea what oil was in there in first place ( was taken off of the AVS & on to fixed 3 mts ago ) & am worried that it may do more damage.

My concern is that as my car has done 85k that this oil will be too thin to give good protection.

Please can somebody confirm wheather i have made a big mistake or im just worrying about nothing.

Thanks in advance.

With just a top up your not really going to change the overall characteristics of the oil so shouldnt worry yourself about it. Besides, as you've probably seen there's been a whole lot of debate in the past ref 30 or 40 grade oils so depending on who you ask its probably the correct oil for your engine anyway!! Its more important if your doing regular top ups of course or a complete oil change to get the "recommended" oil in.

Just make sure it's fully synthetic for God's sake!

The 1.8T engines need synthetic oil, if any other oil is used your engine will get build up from carbon deposits AKA sludge.
