when should the timing belt be changed for A4?

i got a '04 A4 at 120km... ( i cant believe its that much myself)

so i was wondering when is the timing belt due for replace?

is it still ok right now?
ANYONE KNOW WHEN IS THE TIME INTERVAL FOR A4 timing belt?

thanks thanks thanks!!

What engine do you have in your A4?

Normally its around 60,000 miles.

i have a 1.8T quattro

btw~

is 750 a reasonable price to replace the belt, tensioner, roller, water pumper and etc? (labour included)

I don't think 750 quid is reasonable at all unless its being done by Audi. I did mine myself and it cost about 120 quid all in.

Is it F*#k reasnoble.Look around you will get it done alot less than that.

You should get it done for half that amount. Buy the kit yourself from GSF for around 90 quid and pay around 150 labour from a specialist... good luck

3.0 v6 gets done at 80kmiles........Think the 1.8t is at 60k

Does km mean that you're outside the UK... If so whereabouts? As the others have said, 750 GBP would be extortionate for a belt service, but depening on your currency 750 ??? might be a bargain!

Regards,

Rob.

lol~
sorry~

i'm in canada

i've been asking askin around where i live , the audi dealer asks for 1500-2000 for the whole replacement, and local auto shops are about 700-900.

Thats still a bit high, why not attempt it yourself, the most difficult bit is removing the bumper and the radiator. The belt replacement is actually a doddle.

Chris, I have long wanted to tackle this job myself, have you done this on the 1.9 TDi AWX engine?

I understand a number of special tools are required to complete the job? Where did you get them from?

Any info would be great.

I did it without any special tools at all.
You will need a jack and stands, jack up the car and remove the wheels.
The splash pan below the engine and the inner arches will need removing.
If your car has headlight washers like mine then you will need to drain the washer bottle and remove the slide on part (you'll see what I mean if you have it)
Then remove the bumper.
Both headlights have to come out.
I couldn't remove the radiator because the PAS cooler ran through the cowling surrounding the rad but I did drain out all the water, unbolt the slam panel and swing it slightly out of the way.

Remove the belt cover and turn the engine to TDC, there are marks on the cam and crank pulley. I put an allen key in the cam pulley to lock it in position.

Remove the bung from the crank aux belt pulley and remove the bolts holding this pulley on.
Then put an allen key in the tensioner and release the tension on the belt, slip off the old belt.
Remove the old tensioner and the old water pump.
replace the water pump and tensioner with new ones (lubricate the water pump rubber gasket with KY and make sure the aperture in the block is clean)
Refitting is a reversal of removal.

Remember to get some G12 coolant, 3 bottles will be enough, as you need to dilute it.

Thanks for that, sounds easier than the book would make out.

I don't have to replace mine for a while yet, but I am very interested in doing this myself.
