CAT Glowing RED!!

I was driving home today and when I slowed for a stop light I felt what seem to be the engine shaking. I pulled over and popped the hood, my catalytic converter was glowing red. I am guessing fuel is either too rich or too lean and caused the cat to mess up.

Is there a free download for VAG-COM so I can get the code? I have a laptop and the cable.

If not any idea who sells it the cheapest?

It's quite normal for the CAT to glow red, it gets extremely hot due to the turbo. The shaking will most likely be caused by coil pack failure.

I would have to agree about the shaking, it could be your coil pack as mine had the same symptoms (no glowing cats though)
