carbon smell

ok car smells of carbon when on idle (strong smell) someone one said fuel delivery at idle is high. any ideas on this or what causes this,and how do i repair?

Can you expand on what you mean by "smelling like carbon"? Last time i smelt a pencil or a piece of charcoal it didnt actually smell of anything! Do you mean a burning smell?
