    Bizarre problem, any help for a newbie?

    hey guys, i'm looking to all you with more experience than me for any help at all..

    at the weekend myself and my dad (who's a 'retired' mechanic) took on the task of servicing my car (a4 tdi 130 B6) for the second year.

    only difference this time was the changing of the brake fluid.

    everything went smoothly, but on test drive we noticed the following two problems;

    1) brakes.. first push of lpedal ok, second time we get a rock solid pedal. also if i brake heavily in order to test the abs function, the car just comes to a stop eventually with no intervention. with the car off, if i pump the pedal till its hard (only 1 or 2 times), and fire up the car the pedal remains stiff which would signal a servo fault? i think!

    2) performance.. the car is now also very sluggish, with flat spots. it could be at 2,000rpm in 3rd gear, and putting my foot to the floor does nothing... also if i hold my foot on the brake (whilst stationary) the accelerator does nothing, i can floor the accelerator yet the engine does not rev up.

    are the two connected? we've tried another vaccuum pump to no avail...the next step would be the servo (which looks like a tough job)

    could it have anything to do with how we bled the brakes?

    any help greatly appreciated!

    do you have a vag-com to run a diagnostic as i think the accelerator pedal on your car is drive by wire. do you have any light permenantly lit on the dash ?

    Has your car got ESP. Apparently you need to hook it up to a machine that will cycle the ABS and ESP pumps while bleeding the brakes. That might be a good place to start.

    I did a NVQ mechanics course last year and wanted to change the fluid on my B6. Was told we couldn't do it as needed VAG com plus a device to take the pressure off the ABS system, main dealer or specialist only.

    Hi,
    By pushing the brake pedal to the floor when bleeding the brakes, you have pushed the brake light switch rod all the way back into the switch body, are your brake lights working ok ? ?
    Might be worth a look as if you put your foot on the brake, then floor the throttle it only revs to 2000rpm. No good for left foot braking these audis !!!

    I've the same car and had no problems beeling my brakes. That said I didn't used the pedal method, I used a pressure system to do it! Gunson eezibleed kit. Your systems are most odd. Have you fixed as I notice this is a few weeks old now!

    im experiencing the brakes issue at the moment this thread is a god send,i thought maybe it was just new brakes and felt itl go after a while but on first instance when applying the brake it isnt as responsive but then if i take foot off and reapply its much better.

    guna have a word with so called specialist who did me brakes about this see what he has to say,i loved how the brakes were before they needed changing top notch,this sorta experience makes me think twice about not taking it to the dealers for somthing like this.
