Newbie .... Amp problem

Hi all, newbie here...long time reader, first time poster. I've got a problem with my factory fitted stereo and need some advice.
I have a 2002 19tdi with the stock Chorus cassette system. As far as i can tell the amp has blown (no sound from rear door speakers or sub). Can someone tell me where to look for the amp, I've heard that its behind one of the boot panels or fixed to the sub...can someone confirm which it is. Also are there any other amps which can be plugged straight in without any mods or do i need to stick with the standard Audi one?

its above the sub behind the panel on the right well it is in my avant dont know whether saloons are different the panel should have a latch on it to open
