Red face DPM Autostyling Weitec Shocks/Springs & H&R ARB Install Cost??

I have just brought the above from DPM Autostyling (thanks Damien) I am thinking of going to Northampton Motorsport to have this fitted, i have been quoted the following:

200 for install of shocks and springs
200 for Install of ARBs front + rear
200 for the setup and tuning of both.

600.00 ex.VAT for the above, is this reasonable?

How much did you pay for the anti roll bars and why did you buy front and rear?

I doubt there is a more cost effective mod to an A4 than the RS4 DRC 22mm ARB. Parts ITRO 75 and fitted in less than 30mins by any competent mechanic. Front ARB upgrade isnt necessary as they are all the same.

Would love to see some before and after pic's of the car though. What sort of drop are you aiming at? The S-Line is already 30mm lower. Eibach and H&R both do minus 45mm springs. 15mm would be perfect IMO.

This car sits just about perfect IMO. With some 8mm spacers on the rear to complete the look.

    Talking it's a long one.......

In short my car has been in and out of Audi (2003- Not S-Line, just Quattro Sport) with suspension problems and i now have new front 'trailer arms', they have replaced only the front suspension as it has has numerous knocking noises and squeaks and rattles and they won't replace the rears as technically there isn't a fault to diagnose at the back, blah blah, Audi won't honour the warranty to replace non-faulty parts, whereas my reasoning is that its a car with 60k on the clock and i'm not happy that i have fresh shocks at the front and some new bushes and the original shocks at the rear - and the problems still aren't resolved! The car is finishing its warranty in two months so its a case of sod it...

My reasoning for Weitec shocks and springs is purely because i like the KW brand and quality and there is no discernable difference in quality in this choice over the KW or HR spring/shock combo for my style of driving (i don't want a go-kart!) The drop will be 35mm, but again, i'm not an
aesthetic person, i want a decent supple ride that'll leave me with my fillings!
Having previous been of the VW clan i have been out in a lot cars done with Weitec shocks and H&R, the ride is more smoother and compliant than the standard Audi suspension in my car - as a point of observation the S-Line suspension against my car's standard 'Quattro Sport' suspension is miles better in the first place so i know i will see a significant leap in quality when the kit is finished which will bring the car right up to scratch.
On the ARBs subject, again back to my Golf days H&R ARBs are for me a known quantity and there's little more in the choice other than that, but with the addition that all the bushes will be replaced and i will have a car with significantly reduced roll, a little lower and better 'B' road suspension.

Again back to my other point, with 60k on the clock the suspension on my car is far from fresh so i'm taking the blanket approach plus with a new family (Be warned nappies are not cheap!) i'll be keeping this car until it or I keels over!!

However to answer your question specifically the front and rear H&R ARBs were 289 from DPM which for the authentic warrantied product with the genuine bushes is about the going price (be warned also anyone else reading this there are an awful lot of cheap returns and fiddled packages out there)

As i'm getting to know my way round the Audi mod market i'll obviously see ways like you describe for creating a better car at a far cheaper price than i've paid for this, but its my old mind set i suppose. If i can afford (just!!) to put in 'peace of mind' products in the fundemental parts of a car that provide the most effective upgrades then i will.

Tyres then Suspension and then Brakes has always been my approach! - although i inadvertantly let the kid out of me and got the REVO first, ooops!!

If anyone can recommend me a decent place in locality to Northamptonshire for full suspension fitment and tune for less than 600 plus VAT that'd be greater still(!)

Bubstar - that's one nice looking car btw, i'll post some before and after pictures here when its done.

    Yes, it's lovely isn't it?

I'm very tempted to go for a set of H&R springs now. The RS4 ARB makes a fantastic difference to the turn in and steering feel. I'm hoping the springs will be just enough to finish the job.

A good excuse for some shameless pic whoring I think!!

BTW I fitted some B6 S4 front brakes,Goodridge SS hoses and DOT 5.1 a few weeks ago. WOW, talk about drop the anchor!!!

They weren't the words i used when i got that 600 quote i can tell you!

Ok so the general concensus is i should be looking around 360 to 400 mark which is what i was expecting.

Bubstar, - you shamester! anything for fame eh?!?!

I'll give APS a ring and see what they can offer.

    Bubster,

I'm amazed you read all of my reasoning but its always good to have the whole story than half of it! I'll give APS a call/email and see what they say.

If like you say your car has the S-Line suspension then the H&R Springs will compliment the car's ride superbly though on a personal front i'd avoid going below 45mm otherwise the Avant will develop a perchant for scraping its underbelly and more annoyingly your might find the ARB interferes when going from almost lock to almost lock! although i supose being RS4 ARB it'll be more than sufficient. just a thought eitherway.

S4 Brakes+Goodrich Hose - fancy fitting them to another car??

    NP

The ARB is a rear one. It's a shame you missed the rave reviews it was getting just over a year ago when people started to fit it. Like I said there really isn't any reason to change the front one as it is the same on all models. But you've got your F&R kit now so it's too late for that!!

Your absolutely right a 45mm drop will be the most I'd go. The red car has H&R springs fitted so I know what look I'll end up with, just about perfect!

Find yourself some S4 calipers and brackets (same as Golf R32) they bolt straight on with the bigger 345mm discs.

ah well! still its one less thing to worry about on the wear and tear front at the very least!!

Is it really that simple for the brakes then?!? wow, uhm, i'm not exactly what you'd call handy with a spanner but i'm almost tempted to have a go!

I took your advice and have booked the car in with APS with Ed one of the partners there. they've given me a good all round price so i have booked in for the suspension - shocks, springs,ARBs,laser alignment and tuning, the cambelt change and pulleys, full 60K services as well and a change of the remaining bushes at the front all for 799 inc VAT.

In comparision to the 1500 or so that everyone else wanted i think i've got a good deal. Hopefully i'll have enough money for the meter to cook food for the rest of the month now....

PM me Dude. I've got a compressor and vacuum brake bleeder so no washer tube and milk bottles here!!

How are those Weitecs coming along?

I'm dying to see the pics. BTW I was wrong about the S-Line height - it's 20mm lower (same as sport) so your 35mm should be a lovely looking stance. I wish you hadn't posted, I've moved onto looking at some KW V1 coilovers now!!

"I wish you hadn't posted, I've moved onto looking at some KW V1 coilovers now!!"

Yeah its kinda the way things go, its what i call the magpie syndrome - evrything else looks sooo shiney! must have must have... ooh credit card bill!!! oops!

Just a quick question on brakes regarding your previous post, my car has the standard 17" Alloys so would the enlarged discs and calipers from an S4 fit? plus would there not be a requirement to fit the Master Brake Cyclinder from the V8 to make the calipers and brakes function the way Audi intended them? or should i post this seperately?

Either way I'll drop you a PM soon.

They work fine. I'm not hard on brakes really and it's more for the wow factor TBH. It's a common enough mod for any issues to crop up.

I've seen a post on Audizine re 17" wheels and they DO fit

ok, cool, i wonder whether if i fitted the MBC as well.... you can see where this is going...!!

At least i could do this as a phased install, fit the brakes first so i don't end up with my bank manager's number on speed dial.. uhmmm... temptations...

Well i've had it all done and the suspension has settled, all round it is a cracking result. I haven't had the time to post the pictures yet but i will. The car feels like a completely different animal and its actually taking me time to learn the cars dynamics again if i want to drive with some enthusiasm on the B roads, rest assured it won't take long!!

    Talking APS Brackley

I promise i will get the write up done soon, the pictures are on my laptop which i've left at work again! i will remember!

The work was done by APS http://autops.co.uk/ - Ed Jackson, Andy and Nathan - all of them previously worked at AmD in Bicester, They have now set up a servicing and performance tuning company of their own, see the link.

They have done a cracking job and all in did everything at a great price, i had a full 60k service, water pump replacement, ARBs front and rear, shocks and springs, cambelt, four wheel alignment for 799 all in, Audi wanted nigh on 2k for the same works and most other companies were well on their way to 1.5k!!!

Bearing in mind i'm not handy with a spanner and with an average working week of 85hrs i've neither the time or the energy to learn to do this myself so i was happy to pay for it, my next job is the brakes and the stereo, the brakes i know i'm not doing as i don't trust myself with anything mechanical however the headunit is going to be am Incar PC style job as i've done this before so i've got some DIY ambition!!

    Sounds good ChrisO.

Bub - how did you manage to get the hoses sorted? Just been checking into this, and they need samples to copy? Did you buy new ones to send them to copy or just have yours off the road for a while while they copied your hoses?

This might be just the S4, or might be most cars, not sure...

Heard they're around £90 supplied and maybe an hr's labour?

Have just bought a Milltek system, K&N, and RS4 ARB, all of which are being fitted next Saturday. Am also getting some Mintex front pads fitted. With the hoses (if I can get them sorted) this should help no end. Also getting the GIAC remap for the S4 too, so should be alot smoother next weekend and louder!!

374bhp and 335ft lbs here we come !

Am gonna do a few track days too. Brands is the nearest so will def go there. Anyone else doing a track day this summer? Anyone fancy a trip to a certain long track in Germany??

Sounds good. I'd love a trip to the 'Ring.

I had spare fronts and bought a new rear for pattern. I don't see why they don't keep the hose spec's.........................

TBH I'd use ECS Tuning for the hoses.

Goodridge are a nightmare to deal with, I'll leave it there but could go on and on and on...............................

Wont bother then. All sounds like aggro...

ECS Tuning do a similar hose then?

Perhaps we could get a bit of a convoy going for the Ring ?! Cars/bikes all sorts welcome...

Hi, been off for quite a while and still am, ended up being rushed off to hospital for over doing it apparently! Long story and it'll put you off your dinner!

Thought i'd finally post the install pictures and when i am allowed out of the hospital i will photo the car again as it is now very settled on the springs and has adopted its new ride height very nicely now with the wheels just tucking under the arches.

WOW! Hope you're on the mend Chris!

I've had a a bit of bad luck too (killed my SP1 and pretty banged up)

But I can cheer myself up in the morning when I finally fit my KW V1's!!!

    Some before pic's........
