dead turbo

If it's just the turbo then it'll only be about £600 for an exchange unit fitted (by VAG specialist). It'll only be 000's if you go main dealer.

Its on it's way to one now they reckon there is some sort of breather that should be replaced at the same time so am getting that done as well,
they have found a new turbo fir £400 ish and then labor and this breather
part also.

As for the marks on the intake, thats where the impeller was wobbling around and banging off the sides!

Sorry to hear about that, it's a right downer when something like that happens.

Did you have any symptoms of the turbo going or did it just die suddenly? If the turbo is on its way out, it usually sounds like a drill and there will be huge plumes of white smoke out the exhaust.

a slight whistle has been there for a few weeks but what with the wedding and everything was one of those jobs i didnt get round to, it just sounded like a boost pipe was leaking and no smoke at all very strange

When the turbo actually died and you stopped the car were there clouds of smoke coming out the back? Was the turbine and the blades completely broken?

nah wasnt completly borken and there was no smoke,
but now its in pieces on the bench, you can see it's knackered
and the exhaust pipe is full of dirty oil,

Interesting, I've never heard of a turbo going out so quickly. It usually develops over a number of days or weeks. Guess you just got unlucky.
