    Unhappy Just fed up..!!

As the title says really, just feeling fed up.

The tale starts a few months back when some witless wonder decided to throw a bottle at my rear quarter. I was totally gutted but surprised myself with how calm I was the following day, just treated it as one of those things.

Anyway, I got in touch with the insurance company who tried to convince me to go to one of their approved bodyshops, but I insisted on going to one which was Audi approved. I had to put up with assessors coming out and all sorts because I didn't want to do it their way. In the end though I got the go ahead and the car spent 10 days in the bodyshop. I got a few other bits done at the same time so there was a fair bit of paint needed on th o/s rear quarter, o/s drivers door, tailgate and the n/s wheel arch under warranty.

When I went to pick up the car all looked well, it was raining but the car was gleaming and had been given a full valet. I did notice a few white marks which looked like someone had just missed a few bits when buffing off the polish. Anyway I got round to giving the car a wash at the weekend which is where things went down hill.

The white marks I had noticed were all over the place, drivers door, rear passenger door, tailgate, rear quarter (almost all of it) and the wheel arch. I also got a good look at the paint while trying to look at the mystery white marks. The paint itself had a visible orange peel texture to it. Not everywhere but on quite a bit. The white marks were just as if someone had wet n dried the paint, albeit with a very fine grit, and then cleared over the top. In the sun we've had it was so much more visible. To add insult to injury though, the deepest scratch made by the bottle was still visible, I couldn't believe it.

I've been back to the bodyshop today were the foreman took a look at it. He did suggest he couldn't see it when I started, but I just kept pointing out more and more. He didn't argue and just said I'd need to book the car in for 4 days for "rectification". He did say that someone had flattened the paint before the clear coat and and just missed a few bits when polishing it. My arse, they had missed the whole lot..!!

The lass on reception then tried to say I should have a Polo as a courtesy car but I declined that offer, despite her saying I'd need to wait 2 months for an A3. When I told her I'd wait sh managed to book me in with the A3 courtesy car at the end of the month. Funny that..!!

Anyway, rant over and sorry for bending your ear. I just needed to get that lot off my chest I think. Needless to say I'll be checking the car over very carefully when I get it back this time.

    I feel your pain.

Repairs on my bus are less than satisfactory. Time for a kick arse complete... I used to work in complaints for BT to a fairly high level, pushing people's buttons is fun.

In all fairness I went through to the bodyshop expecting a bit of a battle but once he saw it he just said it needed to go back.

I also know of others on this forum using the same bodyshop and being happy with the work. Seems I must have got the work experience lad on a Friday afternoon.

The bodyshop was Colebrook & Burgess in North Shields, its used by both Tyneside and Newcastle Audi as well as other local VAG group dealers. Like I said I know othes on here who've used them and been happy with the work and the parts they have done right are excellent.

They haven't tried to wriggle out of it and have promised to rectify all the faults so all should work out ok in the end. Yes its inconvenient, and it is pissing me off while the suns out because its noticeable and there is no point in me polishing it. But in the grand scheme of things it not the end of the world.

You did right and feel free to get things off your chest. I and many more would have done the same, if the work is not to high standards or to your standards then they should be rectified regarldess of time it takes or how many times it goes back into the workshop - they should have got it right the first time. Sinny when you collect the car make sure you have a good walk around and if its been raining take a drying cloth with you. Good luck and yeah kick arse!!!!

Well despite not being in the mood to detail the car due to the state of the paint, I did decide to give it a wash with the sun being out recently.

It just brought home the full extent of the mess they made and here are a couple of shots to show you what I mean. Bare in mind the car was in to have some scratces removed on the tailgate, offside rear quarter, and 2 offside doors after some chav threw a bottle at it. Not major bodywork, just some paint.

They have now managed to get an orange peel affect as well as a load of "flattening" marks under the clear coat. This is on all the panels mentioned above and where it was blended on the wing.Oh and I got a tiny spot caused by zinc seperation done on the nearside rear wheel arch which they also stuffed up.

    The lovely textured affect..!!

And the flattening marks just visible.

And here on the rear quarter, the centre of the filler cap has one for some reason..??

I'd take it back, it's a botch job and needs to be put right.

I had a similar thing with my car with regard to the orange peel effect, when I returned it the supervisor said what the problem is that when the paint goes on it takes at least a week or so to dry fully so they can not put to much preasure on the buffing machine as it will smear the paint as it is still soft, I took it back 3 weeks later and they re-buffed the whole car and no orange peel effect now, it may have been just an excuse to cover poor workmanship but they did sort it in the end, can't comment on the white specs though sorry.

I know this sounds scary Sinny but to get rid of the orange peel you'll need to wet and dry the car then polish it back up. Orange peel is just an uneven surface and as said above they can't get rid of it until the paint has fully hardened. It can be stopped by sanding between every coat but bodyshops these days don't do it. Use 2500 grit then finish off with 3000 and after that give it a good going over with the polisher and it should be gone.

Took it back straight away and its booked in for another 4 days. They tried to tell me I'd need to wait 2 months for an Audi courtesy car but when I refused a Polo and said I'd wait, they booked it in for the end of the month.

This is a major Audi approved bodyshop though so I really didn't expect this clart on. They have even positioned the badges on the back to low..!! When it goes back in its getting de-badged like.

As well as getting the insurance work done I did have some done on the warranty so at least I can go play hell at the dealers if its not put right this time.

They originally offered to buff it out while I waited but that was until I explained the orange peel was in the base coat and not the top coat. And asked whether they were planning to buff the top coat off altogether to correct it..??

Well the whole episode is finally over. The 4 days turned into 17 days but the finished job is spot on and I'm finally happy with the car again.

I got a bit of info on staffing problems they've had recently so perhaps thats where my hassles stemmed from.

Top marks to a guy called Tyson who sorted it all out for me. If I pluck up the courage to take it back to get the stone chips sorted on the front, he also mentioned some money off for all the hassle I've had.

Just thught I should put the record straight that they did put everything right in the end.

Thats not good mate but I'm sure they will sort it out. The reason for some problems is that they have had staff leaving and some of the people they got on weren't up to scratch, causing problems. Seems to be better now though. But its all audi approved and under guarantee so I'm sure they'll be spot on putting it right.

Plus you'll get to play in the A3 you liked again.

They never even mentioned that small dent when I returned it by the way, so they obviously were aware of it even though they didn't mark it down when I took it out.

Well Im not sure what im doing with it yet sinny. Im getting my DV replaced tonight, and checking for boost leaks and if that doesnt sort out the running issues Ive had with it, its getting traded in for an A3.

There does seem to be a slight bit of rust coming back through but if Im trading it in I dont think there gonna notice it. If I do decide to keep it though Ill be back down to get it sorted.
