Got home from work (worst day ever) as i pulled on my drive i noticed a liquid on the ground which must have been there since this morning, it seems to be coming from rightside of the engine, not sure if its oil or some other crazy fluid. My engine now how is limited (very limited). Can any one help. A4 quattro 2.5 TDI sport.

Is it oil or coolant, oil will be blacker than black and coolant should be pink and also very sweet to the taste, im not reccomending you taste it but a bit on yer finger wont harm you, if it aint sweet its probably brake fluid.

Just been out to lick the deck, whatever it is its black and smells of deisel, dont think ill taste it.

Just after i found out i had diesel leak, i noticed my washer bottle was empty, filled it up and it empty'd itself, now I have a washer bottle leak. Just as well theres only 1 hr and 50 mins left.

Its gotta be engine oil then, wouldnt recommend deck licking when oil is present, any ideas where the leak is from?:lmfao:

Maybe some road debris has found its way in/under and caused some impact damage.

thanks for your helpmate. Seems to be coming out of the rear of the engine, just in front of the drivers side front wheel it could be from a 'return' pipe, or so ive been told. As for my washer bottle, no idea, at least i dont need to go floor licking to see what it is.

The washer bottle is mst likely to be a hose come loose somewhere if its emptying itself that quickly. Though they aren't the easiest cars to dig about in the engine bay.

Have a look in the light and see if you can track it down. The oil leak sounds a bit more serious, though I'm probs as limited as you on that score.

Cheers, I'll check it in the morning, still got 1 years warrenty left so hopefully it wont cost to much, but ya never know. ps good to see someone else who admits limited skills.

Yeah but don't tell anyone.I usually manage to bluff my way through things

Just been looking at your fishtail trim, very nice. In your blog you say your waiting for RNS-E before you finish it, Have you had RNS-e fitted, If so can you tell me where or how it was done. Cheers.

Got the RNS-E fitted this week mate. It was done on the road outside my house and by me. Once it was done I had a bit of a nightmare though because it just went on mute and stayed there. After some digging about on the Navplus forums I found a solution and all looks good now.

Not sure whether I'll add the last bit of fishscale trim though as its 30 odd quid for an ashtray cover so am not sure. The gear surround looks good though when lit up by the ambient lighting.

Take back the limited skills bit, i would'nt dare try it myself was it hard, really fancy it and got a quote off a lad , craig; on this site but he lives in manchester which is a bit of a trek.:icon_thumright:

No it wasn't hard, more fiddly than anything and you do need to get the hacksaw and file out so care is needed. I still need to finish off modifying the climate contol unit but I'd rather do it a little at a time than to much.

I got a quote from Craig too but the more I read up on it the more I thought I'd tackle it myself. All in all it came in at less than £500 for the harness, RNS-E and the double din cage. If you already have a double din head unit though its a doddle to fit.

Only got a single din and no patients, so i think ill leave it to the experts. I've got a nasty habbit of starting things and not finishing them. Looks like a trip to manchester it is then. Thanks for the info, its been really helpfull.
:yes::yes:

Easy to read aqnd understand i may give it go. thanks mate ill let you know how i get on if go for it. hope you get to the bottom of yours. Cheers
:tocktock:

Mine's all sorted once I removed the offending 2nd mute wire from the adapter. If you decide to tackle it yourself give me a shout if you have any questions mate.

Cheers mate I may just be intouch. 1 last thing, were did you buy your RNS-E unit from and the double din? Cheers

The double din cage I picked up from VAG parts here

And the RNS-E I got from ebay. It was a seller registered in Ireland but was shipped from Lithuania. The seller wasn't accepting paypal at the time so I got it for a maiden bid of £390.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY BY AUDI RECOVERY, THEY THINK THERE IS A SPLIT IN A FUEL LINE, DEISEL ALL OVER PLACE, AND WHATCAR DID I GET IN RETURN- A ****** ASTRA ESTATE, LOOKS LIKE THE TALIBAN EXPRESS. THE AUDI ASSISTANCE FELLA SAIDIN12 YEARS HE HAD ONLY COME ACCROSS 1 TDI QUATTRO WITH A FUEL LEAK (MY TDI). DOES IT COME IN 3'S?

Maybe the 3rd one was getting the Astra ????

My car goes in for paint the week after next so I'm looking fwd (not) to see what I get in return.

just to follow up, my car's been in wearside audi for 3 days and i am happy to report is now fixed. Aparrentley it was diesel cooler leak and isnt that common, also if i did'nt have an extended warranty it would have cost £286 to fix. Next mission is RNS-E starting next week, ( finishing next month)
:)

Was just wondering, did anyone manage manage to modify their air con unit ,if so how? as im starting my rns-e retro fit on saturday, and dont want to leave anything unfinished.

I modified my air con unit mate although I did it in a hurry as I was going away and its not quite finished. Just needs a final bit of filing.

Its easy enough to do though, I just trimmed it down a bit big, hacksawing through the metal trim, and then take time with the filing til you get it right.

Make that 2 Audi's with a diesel cooler leak. I had the same problem about 1 month ago. Only way to test it was to pressure test it so never found out where the leak was..Fixed anyway £160 all in at an Audi/ Volkswagen Specialist...

re your washer bottle

i had same prob till i realised the bit you fill is like an expansion tank, fill that and leave it a min or two and fill again till it stops draining. there must be a large reservoir underneath somewhere?? maybe a breather is blocked or something that is stopping it filling quickly

hth

Make that 3, our B6 had a cracked fuel line thanks to ridiculously aggressive car park flip up plates (to stop people entering/exiting via the wrong exit/entrance).

Re-cap, six weeks ago audi wearside fixed my leak, 2 days ago i took it there for an M.O.T the dealer commented there was no under tray fixed and that it was'nt on when it was in the time previous (conveniant or what).
To cut along story short its leaking again or should i say Pi***ng out, it seems to be coming from the rear wheel on the drivers side.
I'll be taking to audi first thing but dont want them filling me with s**t. Any one got any ideas.

I had the same problem Paul, my car could not be tested at the MOT station because fuel was leaking from the fuel filter. It wasn't much but it was constant and you could clearly smell it from inside the car.

After having a fiddle with the fuel filter it became clear, this was my problem because as soon I adjusted it and started the car, fuel would literally pour out. No amount of readjusting would stop it from leaking, so I went to the dealer and ordered a new filter. Took 20 mins to fit and voila, jobs a good'un. No more leaks or smell.

If your fuel filter is ******** it will be hissing slightly because it is clogged up. Change it asap because it will be putting more stress on your fuel pump, and if that goes you're proper ******.
