I put a £200 deposit down on an Audi A4 Cabriolet 2.4 Multitronic. Its moro blue, full leather interior, 50000miles on the clock, 03 plate. Full balance is £15995 from Berkshire BMW Garage in Maidenhead. Is this a fair price??

Within that price the dealer has included getting a small scratch repaired and getting the alloys refurbed where they're marked. If it has under 7months MOT they willl get a new 1 done for me too. They have also said they will get a service done cos when I test drove it the service light came up. They didn't specify whether this would be done at an audi dealer. Should I get them to service it with audi + if they won't how much of a reduction should I ask for in the price ( the deposit is down subject to further inspection, if I have any probs I can withdraw on the sale or I could try for a price reductioin).I also spoke to a friend and they mentioned getting them to change the cambelt?

Im going back to the dealer to do a full list of what I require to be done+ confirm the sale tomorrow. Anything else I should be looking/asking for?

Thanks for your help, am a typical girl... if it looks good in the pictures I buy it but feel they may take advantage of this. Need some expert advice!
 
Cambelt is due at around 60,000 and costs about 400 quid so try and get that done by them, and Audi will need to do the service as BMW won't be able to reset the service indicator.
 
i would let them service it. price sounds about right tbh.
just check when you go to pick it up that the oil is clear and not black. That will give you some indication that work has taken place on it

just posted again cos was planning on putting 19" RS6 wheels on it if I can find any.
saw some on another A4 cab + though looked good.
But got to find them 1st. am after genuine ones but 2nd hand. am not paying £3k for new ones
 
audi upgrades
genuine ones are gonna be expensive, plus Im not sure if they fit. I think they have a funny offset like the RS4's

The service light can be reset by anyone. It tells you in the manual. Just thought I'd warn you.

The only problem is the engine, the 2.4 is not exactly the quickest and it is very thirsty, the 3.0 is alot quicker and more economical, also handles better as it is an aluminium engine.
There is also the 1.8T, just as quick, much better handling and will do 32mpg vs 22mpg on the 2.4.

2005 S-Lines have been changing hands for around £19500 recently with 30k miles on them. This to me seems like a better deal.
Mate just sold his 2003 53 plate 3.0 cab with 39k miles on it in Moro with grey leather, armrest, symphony and bose for £14200 in a private sale to give you an idea.

I would look around if I were you, that seems too much money for a 4 year old car with the wrong engine in it.
 
Just looked at the spec, there are no options on it at all apart from Leather, everything else is standard.
That car books at £12100 as a part ex, I would walk away.
 
where was your friend when i was looking. i'd of bought his! i will only get my deposit back if i find fault with there facts.
have u seen any around up for sale. if i can find a better one before saturday ( my deposit deadline) ill go for it.

Are you paying cash or fiancing??

reason I ask is you may be better to buy a 2005 car for £20k if financing, than a 2003 car, because of balloon payments it works out cheaper to buy a newer car for a bit more than an older car.

Problem with the cab is it doesn't loose much money between year 2 and year 5, so buying a 4 year old car is a bit silly if using finance, you are best to buy one that is 2 years old that has lost the big chunk already.
 
My mum is selling her 2005 S-Line 1.8T auto, it is silver with black leather/speed cloth and has 30k miles on it, she is asking £20k for it.

My brother is thinking of buying it and I got a quote today for him as follows....

£20000 less £2000 deposit
£18k to finance.
36 x £308
Final payment of £10k

£300 a month for a £30k cab is not bad at all.


How are you buying it and what sort of deposit have you got?
 
Hi, the automatic transmission fluid in the multitronic gearbox should have been changed at 40,000 miles. Try and establish if this was done. If it hasn't then there are two issues;
1) it needs to be done and is such a specialist job it, almost by default, has to be done by an Audi dealer. Should cost £150 -£170.
2) Audi have some history of assisting financially assisiting in cases of multitronic gearbox failure, but only if the transmission fluid was changed at 40,000 miles. Without proof of this you are likely to be on your own if you get gearbox issues.

It is a good looking car though :)
 
Also, you may not have an Audi warranty on that car, extended warranty on it will be nearly £1000 for an Audi one and they will not let you take one out if it has slipped.
You are paying main dealer prices for that without the back up.
 
I'd stay away from Audi's CVT Multitronic gear box. They have had horrible reliability here in the USA. They have had a reflash campaign here to fix some of the "Shaking" issues that the gearbox can produce, so make sure it's been reflashed to the latest software. Just get a manual or tiptronic, CVT's are just too big of a headache.
 
im paying cash for it and budget will only stretch to £175000 so any more than that is too high.
thanks 4 the advice on transmission fluid. im going in today to see them so will ask about that.
 
just been back to visit + got my deposit back. something wasnt right and when i asked about the transmission fluid change the guy said it hadnt been done but that he'd get it done + write on the report form that the mileage was 40000 (its at 50000 now) dodgy!!
he still couldnt provide me with the FSH the car supposedly had and he knew I was coming + this is the 3rd time ive been. watch out for berkshire BMW!
The search begins again...
 
A wise choice me thinks - a BMW dealer whether main or independant will not know enough about the various complexities of an Audi's history/servicing etc. At that price, especially with cash - as a lot of the posts have pointed out - you should be able to get a lot more for your buck. 1.8T is a brilliant engine, the 2.4 was introduced with the same power, but is heavier and frankly poor on economy. For £15k you should be able to get an 04 or newer Cab at this time of year. Also, if you have the chance, any of the main Audi dealers may be up for a deal to close off January - don't ask / don't get mentality perhaps, but it has worked for me in the past. Good luck!!

I would also expect to get at least a grand off sticker prices or maybe a bit more, so well worth looking at crs around the £19k mark and beat them down to £17500, you are in a good position being a cash buyer ready to move.
 
thanks for your help guys. also reported that dealer to ebay cos the more i looked the worse it got. think the car may be stolen or something along those lines. im best out! I can stretch to £18000 so if you see anything keep me posted. Im fussy though. I want it to be moro blue or black, possibly the dark grey but black/blue would be better+ full leather interior. Not keen on the wood inlays would rather black or chrome but i hear these can be changed quite easily. after reading what you all put on yesterday im a bit put off the multitronic engine unless its from the audi dealer with full audi history.

I bought my 1st S3 from that garage. They are just a small independent so probably would drop the price a fair bit, especially at this time of year.

A nice S-Line there and still under Audi warranty........ no bad :thumbsup:

o + yeah got to be fussy. im not a millionaire so its a lot of £ so got to be right!
 
it says in the motoring press that the A4 cab is like putting your money into an ISA, they hang on to more of their value than any other similar car!
 
I bought mine for £26.5k a year old, added the Nav for £500, put the S4 wheels, grille and mirrors on for another £600 and sold it to a dealer 6 months later for £28,200.

The bubble has burst slightly now, but still hold their value better than anything else up to 6 years old. That is why I said it is best to buy a car that is 2 years old, you can drive it round for 2 years and loose hardly anything.
When you think you can buy an 18 month old car for £21k and a 5 year old one is £15k and a 4 year old one is £17k you can see why buying at 2 years old is a good move.

You could borrow the extra £3k over 5 years at £70 a month and be in a nearly new car, after 2 years sell the car for £17k, pay off the 2 grand left on the loan and you still have £16k for the next one. So it will have cost you £2k that you put in, £2k to pay of the remainder of the loan and £1400 for the loan. £5.5k in total.

If you buy a 4 year old car for £17k it will be worth around £12k after another 2 years with 70k miles on it. So it has still cost you £5k and you have been in a 4 year old car, so the same amont just about as buying the almost new cab.

Worth considering.
 
complicated.. but i worked it out in the end + can see your point. its worth me thinking about. I may be able to up my limit again slightly if i havent found one by the end of feb so ill give it some thought. thanks for the advice. o and how did you find the multitronic engine ( i noticed yours had it from the pics).
 
any opinions on 2 cab's up for sale on piston heads.

1st one is the black 33100miles @ £16900. reg2002, 6 spoke 'diamond' alloy, BOSE, coolbox, acoustic parking sensors, interior light package, heated/elec seats, auto dimming rear view mirror. full audi service history. 3.0 sport manual

2nd one is also black 29000 milws @ £16250. reg 2002 17" kraft alloys, heated/electric seats,BOse, full audi service history.3.0 Sport manual.
