18" RS6 Alloys giving me grief

I have recently bought a set of 18" RS6's with Toyo T1R tyres 225/40/18 from Rochford tyres.

Whacked em on and took the car for a spin but got a whole load of vibration through the steering wheel from about 40mph upwards, so I took them to a tyre specialist and they took off all four wheels and found that they needed re-balancing but also stated that three out of the four alloys looked buckled (flat spotted)??? and proceeded to show me on the wheel balancing machine how they weren't running straight.

At the moment I am facing a long drive on Saturday from Birmingham to Essex for Rochford to have a look at the alloys!!!

So my question is has any body else had any problems like this? Could it be that they are buckled or could it be something else?

    Please help! All comments appreciated.

Just to set the record straight I have bought from Rochford before and didn't have one problem.

sounds too me as if theyve sent you out previously returned wheels. the flatspots can be caused by hitting deep potholes etc. sound like alot of ballache u should just send em back and get a new set. end of the day youve prob spent around 800 on these wheels u shouldnt have to fork out more to get them to the standard they should be in the first place!!!!!

do you have these wheels fitted? do you get any vibrations that shouldn't be there, i have noticed now that the vibration has reduced but still happens at about 60mph +

As long as you have not exceeded a period of 6 months since purchasing the wheels, it is still up to the company you purchased them from to prove that there aren't any manufacturing defects with them. You should be looking to have them replaced free of charge. Good luick with getting it sorted.

I have 18" RS6 on my car, also from Rochford. They did send out one wheel with the wrong PCD, but it was sorted quickly using parcel farce. This is the third set I have from them and otherwise, no probs.

Car has always run fine, sounds like you got a duff set.
Coming back to Audi with an A3 Tdi Sportback Quattro... but the 220bhp T5 was epic....

Thanks for all your comments people.

Been down to Rochford Tyres today and problem sorted, the wheels hadn't been balanced properley in the first place but when I took them to the wheel centre near me the guy hadn't fitted the wheels to the balancing machine correctly.

If you have RS6's and need new tyres or need them balancing make sure when they fit the wheel onto the spindle on the balancing machine they put the cone on the inside of the wheel, NOT on the outside against the wheel bolt holes.

The guy at Rochford explained to me that the wheels are cast alloy and not machined, only the hole through the centre and the bolt holes are machined so if the fitting cone is placed on the outside of the wheel the cone will sit against the raised sections around the bolt holes and when the machine spins the wheel it will make the alloy look buckled because the cone is not sitting against a 'true' surface.

Man, what a nightmare, anyway at least its all sorted I can sleep at night again and finally enjoy my new wheels!!!
