:drag: its official, following up from my last thread, I now need a New Engine & Turbo, Well gutted, cant believe I gotta fork out £3000 ish for a standard engine.. Thinking of just cutting my losses.

Has anyone else ever been in my spot??:(

out of interest wot did u pay for the car ball park figure?

who gave u the above quote aswell? audi?

I paid 6K for the car (1.8t sport Quattro with 99800 Miles 8E Model) Full Audi Service histroy - Longlife one though!!

Ive had the Quote from Lion Garage (Audi/VW Specialists)

:(

I just feel if I was to spend that sort of money then Id rather look into a Major Engine modded up.

My Previous car was 280bhp Remapped Subaru, Now I know that Id never get the same sort of power out of mine but was planning for sensible mods to make the Car more responsive, Not Chavv'd up though.

i bet if ur smart u can find a audi breaker same spec engine, get a local garage to fit, then do ur mods if ur not keen on a different engine i.e the 225spec one. that way its a piece of cake for setting up!

engine droped in - start hey presto, no need for playing ecu's etc etc

I know this isn't on the grander scale as your situation but 5 years ago I went and bought a Mk1 Golf GTi, driving home pleased with myself for owning such a car then it starts misfiring. I worked at a garage at the time and got one of the lads who used to be a VW tech, to look at it. Bad news, i had the right bottom end but the head was of a carb engine not inj. I so wish now I went to somewhere like TSR or similar and bought the complete engine and not try rebuilding it myself as the eventual bill exceeded the cost of a newly built engine from a specialist.

Sorry for the rabbiting on but the hole your in sounds oh so familiar!

Yes I can see where you are coming from Colemanlee, The Temptation of buying a Bigger engine etc has begun to put me off, Just got to source an AVJ engine now, Going for the K4 turbo instead of the original k3 as its a easy straight swap I beleive.

Just got to find a new Engine now....

Yes Exactly what Im beginning to think Loafy, Just the Engine I need to Source now...

Well, My motor is off to the specialist tomorrow for the recon of my engine and a new turbo.....hopefully after my £2600 bill, ill be able to continue from my short Audi life again!!

There was an OIL SLUDGE service bulletin listed in the USA for the 1.8T. In fact, if it's found that oil sludge killed your engine then Audi pays to replace it up to a certain mileage on the car. This is of course in North America. Do you guys across the pond get the same treatment. I know of a few on the local boards that have had engines replaced due to this already.

Really???

Thats interesting to know actually because somebody else has also said that to me aswell!!!

I think Ill look into that if its not too late.

Here's the link on Audiworld.com that shows the official letter scanned in by a member.

I guess the letter states it extends the warranty to 8yr with unlimitted mileage for 97-04 1.8t engines in North America. I think you have to have proof that you put the proper oil in your car at the required intervals.

What happened to the engine exactly? Has it seized?

I can't understand why an engine would need to be binned unless it has dropped a rod through the block, just rebuild it!
