carbonio intake kit or upgraded panel filter?

Been looking at the carbonio intake kit http://carbonio.com/a4/a4_b6_intake.php but is a uprated panel filter like the BMC http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoOEM.asp just as effective in the standard air box? Ive heard other types of oiled panel filters can cause harm to the MAF so which one would be better or is there any other cheaper induction kit recommended for the 1.8 t?

ive actually been reading some good reports on the carbonio from the US but it is expensive and if ur not bothered with looks or noise the panel filter will be just as good
