    Why Does Everyone Get Avants?

Hey there. I was going through some S4 videos on a few websites, just passing the time etc.
I noticed that most of them are RS4 Avants. Why is it such a popular choice? Doesn't the length/weight of the car slow it down...

Wouldn't it be a smarter option to go for the saloon instead of the estate A4?

    Just curious really

    Thank you.

My particular reason for choosing my S4 avant, in the saloon you cant take the parcel shelf out for my dog, so he'd basically be stuck in the boot with no air to breath !

It has also been said that the avants have near 50/50 weight distribution too.

For my RS4, there was no choice as they only made it in avant.

I just love the extra room. In the S4 once, I had a washing machine in the boot, 4 people up and it still pulled 150

The original RS4 was based on the B5 chasis A4 and it was only avaiable in a Avant body style, their was no B6 chasis RS4 just a S4 and it came in both Avant and Saloon. Now the B7 chasis RS4 comes in both plus the drop top cab.
Can't answer for the RS4 or S4 boys but I had 2 1.8T saloons and now have an Avant and I do not notice any difference in handling etc. plus I can now safely pack the boot up without having to but cases etc in the back seat where the kids sit! I would have to admit its the best looking estate out their IMO!

    Nice pics! Looks amazing

I think i'm getting confused btw.

I say saloon but I think that's different from Avant? Or is Avant another word for Audis A4 Saloons.
And not all Saloons/Avants are RS4's are they...?

Sorry just mind boggling at times heh.

No, AVANT is basically an ESTATE
Saloon, is, er a Saloon, with no big boot on the back

I got mine for the dog too. I wouldn't let it in the S3.

I think the Avant looks better on the drive than the S3 did, it just doesn't go as well. I think maybe the next one will be an S4 Avant (funds permitting).

I saw a B6 denim blue s-line avant the other day with the RS6 rims.. looked absolutly stunning. Funny thing is the S-line looks a lot better than the S4 B6

We had a funny encounter the other day, both our cars were out (one A4 B6 avant, the other S3) and a group of young boys stopped their war game and stood around loudly discussing which they preferred the look of! Strangely it came out at roughly 50:50 - probably more to do with the fact that the A4 was clean, but the S3 is the colour of the muddy lanes it gets driven down to work!

Still, my wife and I found it hilarious!

B7 RS4 Avant is 3mm SHORTER than the saloon!

"Joe Public" seems totally confused by a fast estate car, it's great fun seeing them look completely confused as a "boring estate car" accelerates quicker than their "sports car".

i'd love an avant, but i'd be afraid of crashing it parking as such, thats probably the reason why i havent gone for a saloon car yet.

the s4 aint all that much longer than my a3, but its just the psychological thing i have to get over first before buying

I chose the Avant over the saloon partly for the heritage (RS2, RS4) and partly for the practicality (its just the wife and I but were never short of space).

But the main reason was simply the looks. IMO too, Audi hit the nail firmly on the head with the B6 A4 GmbH Avant.....................

It's nice to see the real B7 RS4's have arrived now too ;-)

    Cool

I also would not entertain any other estate. My mate has just bought a new BMW 320 Touring Sport, and can honestly say there is no comparison. Yes Beemers make good engines but the latest '3' is awful!

I'm now also slightly upset (sob sob) as I have to sell my Avant (it's the Limited Edition with the S-Line kit), due to building our dream-house. Looking to probably buy either a cheap A4 TDI, or it'll be a Golf GT TDI.

    Anyone interested???
