B6 S4 Dates

The official line is:

Saloon and Avant - manual in April
Saloon and Avant - DSG tiptronic in September

Does anyone know when cars will be available to drive in advance of this ?

Also, I assume there will be an S4 launch day for prospective buyers (the B5 S4 one was at Oulton Park I think) - any news on this yet ?

I was meant to be in my new S4 Avant this week with it having being built in week 19 (Mon 5/5) but I am now told that the car is not even built yet! Seems Audi is having 'engine problems'. My dealer cannot tell me at all when the car is due.

I remember this last time round when I got my current S4 Avant in Oct 98 instead of the expected Apr 98. I seem to remember 'engine problems' at that time. Audi never learns.

Anyone taken delivery of a UK customer car yet?

A week on I hear that my car is actually on its way to the UK and I will hopefully be driving it within two weeks. Shame we had to have an information black hole for a while. However, the delay looks like it is only two weeks which is acceptable. Worse still, I do hear that a number of cars have been delayed by over two months...

Popped into my dealership today, and they have told me there is a problem (wouldn't elaborate or confirm anything about engine problems when I mentioned them), I was supposed to take delivery in September, he now says it could be October or even November, but nothing definate!!!

There was indeed a problem with V8 engine, the same engine is installed in the allroad V8 this car is a couple months delayed. But the problems are solved, i think everything will be fine at the end of july.

In this thread DSG has been mentioned, but de S4 will not be build with de DSG. The DSG in only made for transversed engines. The S4 will get the 6-speed tiptronic.

Congratulations on getting yours so soon. How long did you have to wait in the end? I'm still waiting for definate build and delivery dates for mine. It's been a week since selling my S3 and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms already!!

I ordered the car over a year ago to replace my old shape S4 Avant. I was the second order placed at my dealer but I am first for the S4 Cab, ordered to replace my current SL500!

Happy to post some thoughts after a few days. I'm just hoping that the vertical damping is better than on the old S4. I've been spoilt of late with the amazing adaptive damping (ABC) on the Merc. ABC equipped Mercs corner so flat and can carry speed down the straights on bumpy B roads that would make me sick in the S4!

Two S4's on the driveway? If only my bank balance would stretch that far!!

I think the S4 handles really well over the bumpy stuff. When we test drove an avant version we gave it a good spanking around some pretty bumpy country roads, and at no point did it feel anything but very assured.

If anyone sees a nogaro blue S4 avant (ex-demo) for sale, steer well clear of it, or check out the suspension and underside of the car. Both myself and the girlfriend had it off the ground over a hump back when we tested it!!!

Sorry for not posting pics - S4 Avant did not look right on hols with Thule roofbox in place!

Then went straight into dealer due to lack of power and hestitation under acceleration. Found a faulty knock sensor with dubious wiring - faulty from factory? Got car back after a week - brilliant, now how does that digital camera work????
