Thanks to this brilliant forum, I managed to sort the heater problem.
It wouldn't blow onto the screen unless it was on full blower. Then last week we come back from a bbq out on Norfolk coast, with top down 30 miles. At midnight! Put the heater on just to take the chill off, and her side was blowing hot, my side cold. ( funny she normally blows cold!!) Next day took the glove box out sprayed the motor linkages with wd40, moved the controls about til I was happy things looked fine. Bob's ya uncle!
And the air con works loads better!
