Wow good luck with that, sounds like a potentially lengthy task!
I look forward to the day when I have a garage and big enough toolkit to pull off a job like that!

Well, I've got her in the air. All fluids drained, belts off. I'll do the rest tomorrow.

A very tired one!
Yesterday:

Found a worn tensioner arm. Fix that tomorrow
Today:

New cams, rockers, tappets and plates are in. Done a few other bits and bobs too. I'll belt it and time it tomorrow.
Now...
The damage found. I was only running 23 valves. One wasn't even connected to the cam.

That had fallen out and a lobe had chewed it up.

All of the rockers were heavily worn.
Lobes them selves are ****ed.

The loss of material on one, between the cam wear and rocker wear. There was 1.7mm of missing material.

Should be nippy after!

Wow so many hours of work done already by your fair hands! Must be saving a packet compared to getting a garage to do this, top stuff! Thanks for sharing the pics, it's a good insight to the amount that lies under the engine cover and pipework.
You are going to sleep well this eve! Any work to do on the head before fitting your new bits?

Cheers fella.
Just tidy up really, breather needs changing.

All finished. Test driven and feels great. Yay

It's certainly one of the bigger jobs I've done.
Replaced Vauxhall v6s, changed cams in them. Converted my old 1.6 Jetta carb to Kjet with a 1.8gti head and cam when I was 18.

This was certainly a little bit of a stand back and think hard job.

But. It's definitely a DIY job, one I'd be happy to do some someone.
