I've just noticed that my temp guage is not working on my 2001 1.8T sport.
It's just covered 50k if you need this info.

Is this a common fault?
Is it expensive to fix?

Also If I was to change the car and have a budget of £17-£18k to spend should I go for the new A4 2.0d turbo or the old shape 1.9d turbo GMBH?

I've just had a test drive in the new VW Passat 2.0d turbo sport and it was fantastic but I think it was a bit too big for me but the engine was incredable!!!

I have a 2001 1.9TDI and my temp gauge went whoppy. Started by not moving, then it would stick at 90c even when cold and go up to 130 when operating temp reached. The fact that it stayed there even when ignition was off was not good. I got a sender and replaced it.. no joy!! It works most of the time.

Does your gauge return to normal when engine off? Cheaper to try sender first. It's not hard to do.
