glove box lock 2005 a4

Hi guys, newbie here with a problem with the glove box lock, its not that the handle is broken its that i can't unlock it with the key. i have been able to open the box from the button on the side but was wondering if i could take the barrel out and use the handle without it. I have seen the thread on how to get to it but was wondering if anyone has done this
