Occasional air con turns off!

Hi all,
I normally leave the air con on auto. Occasionally the air con will just shut right down to blower setting 1. If I turn it off and on again it works fine again.

This only happens very rarely and the air con actually works fine (nice and cold) just occasionally switches itself off!

Is this a common fault?

If it's on auto, isn't it to be expected that the ac would turn on/off/adjust as required to maintain the set temperature? Just a guess

yep in auto thats what it does
just take it out of auto and see how you go
