how much coolant will I lose changing thermostat?

On 1.9tdi engine cold with the expansion cap on. ie how much coolant to buy to replace it.

You have to let it drain so get 5ltrs ready

I would be looking to just dump the whole lot and do a coolant replacement at the same time, it makes sense to do it at the same time,
im pretty sure that the 1.9 TDi uses OAT Antifreeze.
