Garrett Turbocharger Turbo rebuild / repair service kit GT15-25 GT1749V | eBay

I'm assuming my Avant 1.9 TDi 130 turbo is as old as the car, 146k, so would I see any benefits from carrying out a turbo clean and rebuild? I have already done a Mr Muscle clean and have had no problems with the car in the 6 months I've owned it. I will soon have the car on the drive way for a week to carry out a full service and timing belt change, amongst other things, and I'm thinking while I've got the front off that the turbo will be easier to remove too. I will also be giving my intake system a good clean.

My thinking is that the turbo seals, bearings etc are subject to wear just like any other on the car so should therefore be serviced occasionally. Is this sound reasoning or should I stick to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra when it comes to turbos?

TIA

Adam

I would say you are wasting your time on something like that

first of all it will need balancing plus if you have any wear where the bearings sit this would need re grinding/building up so it was back to spec

if you want it doing then send it off to someone who can do all this

Didn't know it would require balancing afterwards. Thanks for that

yup it needs to be spun up to about 22,000 rpm!!
