TDi Cambelts

I'm toying with the idea of buying a 2.5Tdi. Can anyone tell me at what mileage intervals the cambelt should be changed?

Thanks.

the pump belt needs checking and adjusting if req every service
and both cambelt and pump belt need changing every 80k

Hmmmm.... The car I'm thinking about is advertised as having done 68.5K, probably not enough for me to insist on a new cambelt as a condition of sale.

Thanks for the info, Pete.

I've been advised by the dealer to have the cambelt changed at 60k miles!?!?!?!?!

Re: TDi Cambelts

My current A4 is a petrol V6, & the correct interval for it is 70K. That's why I asked the question about the V6 TDI, as the one I'm interested in is at 68.5K.

Re: TDi Cambelts

audi advise 80k and autodata say 75k for the v6 2.5 tdi
the 1.9 tdi is at 60k
i checked my belt at 3 years old and 51k (1.9tdi) and found the belt was cracking and about to snap, so i changed it
your best bet is just to change it anyway or you will be driving around thinking is it going to snap and your looking around 300/400 for a belt or 2000 plus for a engine

Is the sale private, approved used or a dealer?

If approved used or a independant dealer perhaps you could agree a reduced price belt change if you take it back to them when the change is due.

Sweetens the deal for you and they make a sale.

If the belt breaks on a 2.5 TDI the cost of repairs will not be in the region of 2000 but be more like 5.5K - the 2.5 will need 2 new cylinder heads probably. Cost of changing the belts, excluding the water pump, which should be changed as well is around 600 including VAT - inc water pump more like 700.

Still mulling it over. I like Kevint's idea, & I think the dealer would go for it, as i've been a customer for a while & we get on well. I'm also thinking about not getting a TDI at all, but another petrol V6, (or maybe just keeping the 2.8 & building an extension).

Decisions, decisions.....

Re: TDi Cambelts

Just had mine done on 1.9TDi (B6)- 450 at a specialist, this included water pump, tensioner and V belt tensioner (which is 100 just for the part).
Still running the 2.8Q as second car, but if you do any sort of mileage the diesel easily halves your fuel bill (650 miles to 50, whereas the 2.8 = 280miles to 50)
I managed to get a silver B6 TDi (130bhp) Avant for 9k as it had done 110k miles, but it was mint. Got full charcoal leather/alcantara interior off ebay for 400 (sold the old interior for 150) so now it's perfect. Wish I'd done it years ago.
