just bought 2003 AUDI A4 TDI SPORT - rev counter problem

H i , totally new to audi and diesels, and as per title just bought 2003 AUDI A4 TDI SPORT... now every thing is great and i love the drive , the only fault i have found is the rev counter sits at idle and doesnt realy move much although all the power is there and drives great ... this was apparently a problem that occurred after a flat battery ? told it should be ok with some kind of reset via audi ?

any advice would be great ..

yeah it sounds like it may need the needle resetting

whats your location? check the vcds users map there maybe someone local who can do it for a few beer tokens

Only shows saved msgs if you save them.

Funney i have similar issuses.
Basically lost snyc with motor,immoblizer on,flat battery,central locking not working. Sorted now,same as you,got a local vcds from map to help out.

Thing is,while driving, my rev counter wont go past 2k revs but engine still does????????

yep , exactly the same , although after driving yesterday , let it sit for a about 4 hrs and all was good , this morning no power again :s

Just drove my car and the revs are well lower than normal. Crusing at 40mph in 4th and its at about 800revs!!!.
So urs resseted after a while of driving? As in back to normal revs?

sorry , my mistake , the revs are the same , just battery totally dead .. just bought a new one and reset fob etc ..... still waiting for a response to fix rev counter etc

Just a update : needle drops when engine turned off , raises to just under the 1 rpm and stays there , doesnt move untill engine is turned off... no reply yet for getting needle reset , phoned a place up in sale who said its a problem somewhere in the car and needle wont need reset ?

any one know of anyone who knows what they are doing ? dont fancy a wasted trip to a stealer rather a forum member get the money

added pic of rev counter, it flickers when any throttle is added as though it want to move but doesnt.. Also i did mention that it dropped when no ignition but turns out it just stays where it is


if i need a new cluster panel ive sourced one locally for £35 could anyone in the Manchester area code and fit ?

I don't think you can code them with vcds as it controls the immobilizer too I'm pretty sure even audi find it hard to code second hand clusters

Ok so N8 read the car with vcds - alot of codes been thrown up but not nothing came back
do any of these corresond with probs im having with rev counter? bearing in mind the car has loads of power and drives faultless just the needle for rev counter just sits in the same place

Mine drives ok. So just living with it at the mo,seems a dark area!

The only good thing is that while at 60mph im only @ 900rpm in 6th lol.

no joy with th rev counter , just stays where it is in the pic i added ... though any throttle it flutters as though it is trying to move up. if urs is moving then maybe a reset would work ??

The drive is great and pulls like a train , i honestly cant fault it atall..
even after this fault i know it hasnt put me off the car , im just one of those that likes everything working and should i change i know ill be sticking with an audi , even the mrs likes it and is out in it today , yet she would never drive the rx8 i had

maybe there is a way to fix the needle ? free it ? i dunno
