Would a leaking egr gasket cause really bad mpg on a 1.9 pd130?

I have a leaking egr gasket on my 130pd quattro and get 42 - 44 mpg on dis.

I think it's leaking, but in getting 20-35mpg, I know it needs a temp sender and stat.
But don't know if anything else could cause poor mpmpg

i used to get 55-60 easy last year

Stuck open stat will cause overfeuling if engine is not reaching operating temperature.

Theres a good chance its this and not a dodgy temp sender. Was on mine

Will cost £6 -10 for a new one and is relatively straight forward to change.

Youl need some coolant to top up

I'm mechanically ok, I'm going to replace stat and sender as they next to each other and both need coolant to be dropped. So be ride not to in my opinion

If looking at the engine from front of car. Stat is bottom right behind alternator. Temp sender is at back of engine infront of bulkead. Its under boost hose that goes into egr. Its a bit fiddly to get too.

But may as well change them both if your dropping coolant out.

I thought the sender was next to the stat, but it was at the bulkhead on 1.8t?

either way I will look behind the egr.
Thanks.

Hopefully this will bring some mpg's back :)
