    Brake set ups

    I will be purchasing better brakes asap as i went to lydden hill and the brake fade was unreal. I am wanting to get hold of either b6 s4 brakes or b6 rs4 brakes, wont to no if there are other options avalible and what you guys have done upgrade wise to your b6 1.8t!
    car is a 2004 b6 a4 bex engine 1.8t fwd thanks

    There is no b6 rs4 ! You can upgrade to 312mm as a start, ferodo ds2500 pads with good discs will do just fine ! You could also get b6 s4, b7 2.0 tfsi or allroad 2001 onwards brakes...

    His should already be 312mm discs standard

    A question here that Andie0 needs answering really is, how much more stopping power can he add using his cars standard brake master cylinder and servo etc, just changing calipers, discs and pads ... if anyone could volunteer this information ?

    Only if quattro mate, FWD just got 288mm brakes, evensome of the v6 petrols got 288mm brakes !?!

    Right so i will have to swap out calipers to a quatroo model and them get 312 discs?

    I fitted a set of front S4 brakes to my 2.5TDi.
    Difference was night and day compared to the 312mm setup.

    I drive enthusiastically - were I hit fade on the 312mm brakes I haven't had a hint whatsoever with the S4 brakes on standard Bosch pads.

    Alex what did you have to change? I ammthinking the s4 is for me so want to start collecting parts thanks

    I went the custom route fitting 356mm discs and 8 pot K sport calipers and they are awesome (completely waisted on me as they will never see a track) The big advantage with using after market upgrade kits as a pose to fitting something like 6 pot porsche calipers is they have been designed to run on the stock master cylinder so the brake pedal behaves like it did before the upgrade only difference is far less force is need on the pedal to achieve the same sort of braking effort.

    Mine was a custom fit as they came off another car (not an Audi A4) so needed modifying but they now fit perfectly I only went this route as they were as near as damit free and the work to make them fit cost nothing too so win win, that all said K sport do make BBK for the A4 B6 in 330mm, 356mm for 18" wheels or 380mm for 19" wheels and they are a great price and get good reviews from road drivers and track drivers.

    Can i ask what car they came from? I just looked at kit, it comes in at £950 which is not bad really but think i could do full rs4 conversion with all neccesary parts for less! If i shop around but if i can find a used kit ill havenit tommorow lol

    They came off my brother-in-laws Focus ST that said the calipers are I believe the same on all fitments just the fitting brackets and disc bells that are different, It was my brother-in-law who also made my brackets and modified the bells for me as he owns an engineering company so if you did get a set he still has the drawings and dimensions to make the brackets.

    I did see a set second hand go recently on ebay for £350

    For the S4 conversion - all you need is the calipers & front brake line.
    I picked mine up for £300 - however they are quite hard to come by and prices may vary.

    Best mod I have done on the car for the money so far - look good and can late-brake.

    As i believe, you cant do the upgrade on 17's though, so may need to upsize your wheels if not got 18's already

    Yer that would be great i will have a look out? So what about the discs are a focus disc suitable for a audi? @ dp

    sounds good im going to see what works best price wise, i will be on lookout for the kit @ alex

    got rs6 18's on atm so should be ok @ scott

    They do as im using them but you would need to send me the bells (inner part of disc) to re drill a set of holes 5x112 and bore the centre of a couple of mm.

    I'm doing the the Porsche Cayenne 345mm conversion on mine after weighing up the costs involved. So far its looking like I'll be under £500 for the calipers, bolts, discs, pads and new lines so I'm really happy with that, just wish the post man would hurry up!!

    This is more or less the set up I'm doing Porsche Cayenne Six Pots

    Did you get the Porsche 18z calipers or the VW Touareg 18Z calipers i only ask as i looked into going down this route and would have if I hadn't got hold of my set up and after reading loads and loads of info on the conversion I found out the Touareg one's are the ones to go for as they look identicle but have an advantage over the Porsche one because they run slightly smaller pistons so you will have a less spongy pedal it still wont be as solid as your stock set up but better than running the porsche calipers.

    I have a link to a post at home saved in my links on my laptop I'll post it tonight the bloke who is talking about them really knows everything there is to know about Brembo's the chap goes by the forum name Dave1972 I think thats right, I read info on loads of owners clubs writen by him.

    I went for Porsche ones although I'm not sure what the piston sizes are a I read somewhere that even they were available with 3 different sized piston set ups. I'm actually tired of reading about them, theres pros and cons for them but they are a very common upgrade now and not many have reported back having a bad pedal so I decided to give them a bash.
    Generally a spongy pedal is the result of poor bleeding, if they are a bit big for the m/c the pedal will just travel more. The bits I read from DaveB were based on Mk4 golfs which has a smaller m/c than the A4 anyway so that would explain the poor pedal on them.
    Hopefully my calipers(£340) will turn up this week, got my discs for £38 each(pagid) and stepped bolts for 20Euros, just need to order lines and I'll be good to go.

    Bottom line, I'm on a budget and tbh I'm really only doing it as I like the look of big brakes. Another big plus for me is I like that the Cayennes bolt straight on with no additional mount convertors.

    Thats the chap DaveB knew it was something like that....

    Be good to here how they feel once fitted, figers crossed they will be a great upgrade and look even better.
