    Wheel bearing replacement

    Chaps

I need to replace a wheel bearing on the front.

Is it easy enough for me to replace myself I do I need to take to a specialist mechanic with specialist tools?

Ive seen on eBay a bearing for £10 or a kit for £30 which looks like a simple bolt on?

    Cheers

I could stand to be corrected on this, but when I looked at doing the same job the words "hydraulic press" in the context of getting the thing on, kinda pointed me to my local friendly garage.

    Re: Wheel bearing replacement

I did mine without a press

Although the bearing can be tight in the strut as I found out!

on the B6 it's a bolt on bearing, but is till a bugger to get the thing out. The £10 bearing are for the B5 model. Also I would be looking to pay more than £25 for a bearing unless you want to replace them every 6 months. Make sure you get new bolts, and your going to need a torque wrench & big ass breaker bar!

Cheers Mike - ive printed that 'how to' out and im 50/50 whether to tackleit myself or use a mechanic.
    it looks simple enough..?

Cheers B5NUT - ive bought a bearing kit for £35 that comes with fresh bolts..
I do have a torque wrench but need to get a couple of tools as per the above 'how to'

When I did mine I just undid the bolts then drifted the bearing out with a copper mallet. It was a bit tight, but not seized in or anything.

Basically yes. Just make sure it's square before you start tapping it in, then you can use the bolts to pull it flush. Tighten the bolts as though you were tightening a roadwheel.
