Hi all finally got round to fitting my 3 spoke leather sline steering wheel, followed the audizine guide for fitting the wheel and airbag and changed wiring plug where i needed too etc, whilst i was on with this i thought i might aswell fit my new cruise and DIS stalks with new highline control module, now ive done all the physical work ie fitting parts and plugging everything in, but as soon as i reconnected my battery and turned on the ignition i now have a flashing brake light on my instruments, also esp light is on and abs light, so ive plugged into vcds, and here are my codes..... (some are unrelated that i know about)

So ignore the ones related to rear doors and door electrics as that is a work in progress, but the ones im worried about are the ones related to the control module incorrect vin etc etc.....

Any thoughts?

look on the wiki it will guide you through

cheers guys got the lights out now im just coding the dis/cruise, only thing im stuck with is the instrument adaptation im unsure what options to select? does it matter?

yes it does matter

I think you will want 31000 theres only one way to find out lol

Well i got working DIS and cruise, my new steering wheel is one notch off but ill soon adjust that, only thing is i must of input an incorrect figure when coding, as i took the car for a quick drive, and the esp kicked in 3 times just cruising along no ice, nothing, just short pulses of what felt like the abs kicking back. After the third the light came on and stayed on,

Dont know if any of my car details will help but its a 2002 se tdi awx 5 speed, had no extras from factory, i put the 'Q' scsm in and also the matching slipring,

Oh and i dont think i selected 31000, my car was 30100 as standard

I think you would have needed a highline steering module to have 30100

Dan's definitely got the highline module (i know his dealer:thumbsup:)

Dan there should be a code for the abs brakes - did you scan before you changed modules - what code was in before?

if not use the 'flyer' on VCDS to guide you - it should be something like 004455 (that's mine 312 discs / abs etc) - it's a soft code so you've lost the 'original' but you'll have it on the scan / can work it out.

cheers
And

I didnt scan before changing it over mate, i used the calculator which was linked from one of the other forums, i took a 3 digit code from the sticker in spare wheel well, ill have to have a proper look tomorrow, mine only has small brakes, car apparently originally came with 15" wheels, was a basic SE,

the calculator i looked at referred to this off rosstech

0?xxx: Chassis
  • 9 = Audi A4
0x?xx: Brakes
  • 2 = Brembo 17" (PR-1LJ)
  • 3 = FN3 16" (PR-1LT/1LF)
  • 4 = HP2 16" (PR-1LX)
  • 4 = FNR 16" (PR-1LA/1LG)
  • 5 = FN3 15" (PR-1LB/1LE)
  • 6 = C54 (PR-1LZ)
0xx?x: Engine
  • 5 = 4/6 Cyl. Diesel
  • 7 = 4/5 Cyl. Gasoline
  • 9 = 6/8 Cyl. Gasoline
0xxx?: Transmission
  • 5 = Manual
  • 7 = Automatic (5HP19, 5HP24, AG4, AG5)
  • 9 = Multitronic (01J, CVT)
To which i think i missed the 9 for chassis i think i left that as 0 so that might be my mistake ill recode it in the morning,

Im guessing my code should be 09555?

I know he has the highline module now but he is saying he had 30100 on the old module which was not highline yet that code is for higline modules according to the guide I linked to above

09555 sounds right to me it sounds like you have the same as me mine had 15 inch wheels from stock

yep when you run the ABS coding module it'll bring up the 'flyout' with the codes on it.

yours will be something like 04575

although ross-tech would tell you it's 09555 - my ABS code was always 04xxx.

"stu-m" sorry i was only joking as i supplied the module!

And

Could this simple mistake cause my ESP issue?

Ill get on with re-coding it in the morning and update once i have done it and take it for another test

From what i can gather on this web link Audi A4 (8E) Brake Electronics (Bosch 5.7) - Ross-Tech Wiki

My login code is 09555 and my coding code is 04255

Ill try to recode with these numbers in the morning and hopefully this will correct my ESP issue, but overall im happy with the job the new wheel looks the BIZ, shame i snapped one of the shroud screws, so the wheel rubs slightly, on my test drive i tested cruise, functioned well, and my DIS i think i activated more functions than i needed (as i guessed the code really)

Will update the thread tomorrow,

thanks for the help guys

right so i now have the abs/esp coded correctly, no lights or faults,

my only issues now are my steering wheel is constantly showing:
01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded,

which i am confused about as i have selected the correct code for my wheel

Coding
  • 0?xxx: Steering Wheel
    • 0 = Standard (without Multifunction)
    • 1 = 3-Spoke Steering Wheel (Sport Steering Wheel)
    • 2 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio Control
    • 3 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio/Telephone Control
    • 4 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio/Telephone/Voice Control
    • 5 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio/Voice Control
  • 0x?xx: Options
    • +1 = Tiptronic
  • 0xx?x: Board Computer & Cruise Control
    • 0 = Board Computer & Cruise Control not installed
    • 1 = Board Computer installed
    • 2 = Cruise Control installed
    • 4 = Board Computer & Cruise Control installed
  • 0xxx?: Rear Wiper (Chassis)
    • 1 = Rear Wiper not installed (Sedan/Cabriolet)
    • 2 = Rear Wiper installed (Avant)
My wheel is not a standard wheel, and is 3 spoke (not MFSW) so surely my code of 01041 should be correct? i have then gone into adaptation and opened block 081, and entered 00111 so that the module can learn the vin etc, but still get this fault,

that and the fact my horn doesnt function at all :S

Starting to wonder if it is because i have fitted an a3 steering wheel ( well i assume its an a3 one as part number starts 8p0)

My 3 spoke wheel was coded 00002 originally - but it now works with either the 01042 or 00042 (avant) code - i think the wheel is 'dumb' unless it's multi-function- there's no airbag faults and the horn works.

If you've a multi-meter check the horn pins 'short' when pressed.

By the way why did you change the slip ring? is it a b6 or b7 one?

Is it possible the A3 horn wiring is different?

Oh and have you cleared the fault codes and driven it for a bit?

And

Ive cleared the codes mate but it comes back with control module incorrectly coded, and yeah i changed the slipring for a b7 one, so all plugs line up and fit right, i changed the 4 pin plug for the airbag (i read all the warnings about single stage dual stage etc) so you reckon it might be worth coding it to think its multi-function? i dont own a multi meter mate,

Only driving ive done is the school run this morning... about 15 miles no difference to horn

This is the wheel i fitted:
AUDI A3 S3 A4 S4 A5 S5 A6 S6 A8 Q5 Q7 TT S-LINE STEERING WHEEL with airbag | eBay

The airbag wiring harness i got might be slightly different, ill take it back out and cross reference the pin locations on that diagram to the one i have and HOPEFULLY it will be something obvious :)

dan

have you checked the fuse? (horn one)

did you do the whole re-calib sequence when you did your abs as the wicki guide - there's a thread about a guy who had this prob on a rs6 - think it might be similar

Strange fault code, 01044

And

Well i still have that fault code, BUT.... i got my horn working, so that was unrelated, the multi plug was layed out differently to the one in the guide pics, for some reason my horn pins were on the upper row on their own, there were two blanks on the lower so swapped them into them and viola! horn working as it should, all the info on that link seems to point to recoding abs module, but i dont have any lights or anything so im not sure how that could be at fault.....however as id prefer no faults i will attempt recoding it as it may be because ive recoded instruments/steering wheel afterwards,

SCCM and ABS are related i just don't know how!:keule:

i'd try and follow the steering calib / module / abs sequence again

nearly there now:icon_thumright:
