My 2004 A4 1.8T cabrio has blown a turbo after only 70000 miles. Is this a common problem or have I just been unlucky. I've only had the car 5 months

they can go at 70 iv had 1 got at 50
depends how the cars been drove looked after etc

Thanks for this but as I've only had the car 5 months, I have no idea how it was driven or looked after before. I had a Saab 9 3 with almost 200,000 miles on it and the turbo was fine. Maybe I was being naive to expect the same with this car

make sure you change the oil pump strainer and get the sump inspected at the same time,

and the oil feed pipe

Thanks for the hints guys. I am replacing all the pipework as I've heard they're prone to gungeing up but I didn't know about the oil pump strainer

yeah the oil pick up pipe is common for it to block up and ****ing the engine
