Fault code 17748

Ok where do I start? A4 2.0lt SE 2001 B6

My o2 sensor has been faulty for a while now to which I replaced the other day. Only thing is and i'm not sure if it matters, I replaced it with a second hand one from a car that had been in a rear end smash however the sensor was working fine prior to removal.

So now I have idle/running issues.
Hot or cold car runs very nicely when MAF is unplugged and very very roughly when plugged in (barely wants to start when cold).
Would suggest that the MAF is faulty Yes?

However the fault code coming up is 17748 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation
P1340 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

Timing marks are spot on Checked double checked and checked again!

So I run the car plugged in the VCDs run the measuring blocks but not sure what I'm looking at, perhaps someone can help explain

Hi, did you ever come to the cause of this? I have the same issue with a 2.0 ALT engined Passat of my dads. Spent hours re adjusting timing because I was sure I had messed it up. The original belt/tensioner was hanging off so i assumed changing the cam kit would fix it, but no

no never got to the bottom of it! In fact the car, although runs fine when the MAF is unplugged, is now off the road and will be sold for spares. Sad as I really liked this car but haven't got the funds or the patience to fix it

I'm trying a crank sensor to see if that fixes it, a long winded google suggests, a few have had resuls in changing the cranks(G28) sensor
