A4 2.0 Avant Heater Problem

Hi all!!

We have had a 2003 Audi A4 Avant for a little while now, and since we have owned it, its never really blown out hot air from the heaters.

And at this time of year, you can guess why we are getting annoyed that its not working, its freaking freezing! haha
A little while ago it had a water pump change and it blew mildly warm air but not for long, it soon went back to its cold self!

Does anyone have any ideas on what to check or what could be the culprit of our problem??
Iv head there is a valve that can go that feeds the heater matrix?
Anyone able to helop identify it and find a part number? im looking here Audi A4/Avant 2003 but I cant see anything obvious!

Its a 2.0L Petrol engine.

Two things spring to mind - if you've had a new water pump fitted there might be an airlock in the heater pipes.

Secondly, does the car reach normal temperature reasonably quickly ? If not then the thermostat may be faulty.

However, with it being an A4 petrol engine I have no knowledge of the workings and can only suggest a trip to a local specialist for a look.

As said above by Mike does the temperature gauge get to 90 and sit at that while driving around?
If the temperature gauge does get to 90 and stays there when the engine is warmed up then that possible rules out a faulty thermostat.
If its had a new waterpump you could have an airlock in the system. To get rid of the air you could use the bleed screw on top of the coolant pipe at the top of the engine or let the engine run for a while with expansion tank cap off and let the air work out of the system.

If its not that it could be a dirty/blocked heater matrix which can be quite easily flushed out to get rid of the gunk build up.
This was the problem on my old a4 1.8t and after flushing the heater matrix it went back to giving out full heat again.

The final thing could be a flap not operating on your heating system, the only way to check this is get it scanned for fault codes.

faulty heater flap/ air direction motors, remove the glove box you can see 4 motors, move all the heater controls, look for one that does not move any levers! worth a look, i did have some but they all sold on ebay within 3 days!
