Avj engine ??

Hi guys my mate has a 1.8t avj and his cambelt has snapped obviously resulting in a smashed cylinder head

Question is does the replacement head have to be a avj code or can any code head fit ?
Please give me your opinions guys as its proving awfully difficult to source a avj head

How badly damaged is the head? why not just rebuild it?
