Hi guys, hope someone can help me. I have an A4 (b6) 1.8t Quattro (2001) with 110,000k on the clock.
Yesterday the oil pressure light came on (red can) after a good run out. I checked the oil and it was a bit low so I topped it up.
I took it for a run and got a mile down the road and it started to rattle/knock and the oil light came on again. I limped it home and lifted the bonnet and sounded like a top end knock/rattle that is only there between 1000 - 2000 rpm, after 2000rpm it sounds as sweet and smooth as it always has.

Any ideas? hoping its not terminal

thanks
Rich

Get the sump off and clean out the pick up as a bare minimun AVS servicing has killed these cars for the later owners.

thanks mate, so you think it could have sucked up some sludge and so long as I sort that its nothing too serious?

The oil pick up will be blocked. Driving it could cause serious internal damage.
