Insurance renewal........why makes us work for it LOL

is amazed by insurance companies..... £600 renewal, then call and get it for £500ish (best price they say with discount) then get an online quote from same company (Admiral) and call up again and get it for £369 all in!

They try and make money out of lazy people and renewal time!

I almost went with Sky Insurance which I hear gives good customer service but if you need a claim though their broker Chaucer its hell, so stuck with old faithful Admiral as always had good experiences in the past whatever the situation.

    Rant over LOL

thats the game now, screw the folks that wont chase around. Im with Bell insurance and its £260 fully comp with all the trimmings, never had to make a claim yet though. Another point i seem to have found is that third party seems to be the same price if not dearer than fully comp. And also did you play with the voluntary excess, i always put it to zero and it only puts the policy up by around a tenner, just another money saving issue from the insurers. Have now got to the point where my tax is overtaking the insurance!!

I have a £250 excess after playing with figures but happy with that.

With Chaucer? Yes this is bias coming from us of course, Chaucer are about as good as it gets for specialist vehicle insurance.

I despise these sorts of review sites, they are set up for moaners to moan but have a read of Chaucer vs other other insurer you mention:

Personally speaking, I insure both of my performance and modified vehicles with Chaucer, I have the pick of a variety of insurers, I choose Chaucer because I honestly believe they are the cream of the crop.

It's not just insurance, even broadband providers etc seem to be able to find a slightly cheaper deal if you threaten them with leaving etc.

Insurance renewal........why makes us work for it LOL

I had the same from admiral multi car policy renewal £850 went on line to confused and got 2 separate polices £350 each so phoned admiral to complain and get a new multi car policy discount on the confused quotes and got my insurance for £600 on my both cars.

I hate the fact companies give preferential treatment to new customers and not existing ones. The only way existing customers get a better deal is by phoning up and complaining which is counter productive on customer satisfaction. Sky tv is the absolute worst for this.

Chaucer aren't a broker, they are an insurer.

Their 'specialist motor' underwriters are mostly ex-Groupama (who used to be Gan Minster/Lombard).

I wouldn't say that they are a quality insurer with the reputation of the likes of Chubb, Hiscox or Chartis but they aren't bad and have a refreshing attitude towards non-standard, imported and/or high-risk motor insurance and leave much of the competition standing in that respect.

How many of us car enthusiasts have spent ages on a telephone speaking to some kid with a script and a prompt sheet trying to explain what an EGR Delete kit is or an induction kit or a set of lowering springs? Its quite good speaking to an insurer who have thought of this beforehand and have pre-rated the various mods etc.

Always a difficult topic is car insurance because there are so many different variables that can make up your final quote (post code, car group, age, experience, garaging, NCB, mileage, use etc.). Most people just want the cheapest but there is a strong argument that suggests you do get what you pay for.

The bottom line is that in this day and age motor insurers are losing money hand over fist. Mainly due to personal injury claims and the ridiculous cost of credit hire. Insurers make matters worse for themselves in this regard!

In 2010 on average, motor insurers paid out £4 in claims for every £1 they collected in premiums. Is it any wonder that costs have spiralled?

My advice is to shop around every year. There certainly is no benefit of being loyal in this market. Online insurers offer cheap deals via the net for new customers and usually charge more for existing customers. They usually don't offer the same deals to existing customers that they do to new ones, which is a con.

A policy is only as good as its claims service. Buy wisely.

    Cheers,

J (an insurance broker for 19 years!)

I'm with Chaucer as I needed a motor trade quote. They were cheaper by around £400 a year compared to anyone else

I echo the loyalty thing and what was mentioned about the claims service which steered me back to my original insurer, but eventually they offered to price match it.

Its always been the claims service that I focus on after having issues with other companies like adrian flux in the past (years ago now) but very positive ones with direct line, Privilege and Admiral.

    Comes down to personal experience

Two years on the trott ive shopped about waiting for my renewal from Esure to land on the mat and each time its been cheaper than what I could get on the comparison websites, so it does seem that companies want to keep your business these days!
