[h=2]2004 A4 1.8T s line 190[/h]
Hi I have just purchased a 2004 Audi a4 1.8T 190 s line.

I am looking to service the car as soon as for piece of mind, but vehicle does have full service history all main dealer.
it has 81,000 on the clock so is average for age.

I will service the vehicle my self but wanted to no if yu guys think that is worth while replacing the air filter with a thinner panel filter (k&n or pipercross) and weather or not this would make the car read a fault code.

What sort of spark plugs are best for this car as was going to buy Bosch but wanted to no if there is something better out there (NGK)?

I also want to lube up all the locks and hinges on doors so wondering what product to buy for this and where I can purchase this from.

Lastly I will need to reset the service light after so that the count down starts again and how to change the computer to register that I will be changing from long life servicing to more frequent servicing every 10,000 miles

Thanks alt and all Your comments will be more than appreciated

Hello there, i havnt personally owned the audi variant of the 1.8t but ive owned the seat and vw equivelants, and personally i wouldnt think a k&n or pipercross would cause any issues, and i believe theyre platinum/irridium spark plugs and last time i serviced my cupra i got NGK ones they were about £8 each (this was about 16months ago) not sure about lube, but you will need Vagcom to reset service indicator :)

Thanks mate will look into the iridium ngks as I have used these before in my starlet and were great. I have ordered a k&n panel filter and will fit it soon as I get everything together to do the big service all in one.

I am going to write a list of stuff I am going to change can you lot let me no if there is anything I have missed for a service:

Mobil oil
brake fluid
gearbox fluid
oil filter
fuel filter
air filter
panel filter
spark plugs
lube all locks + hinges
check all bushes, suspension, brakes etc

I've got the exact same model as you and by the looks of it the same colour, not serviced mine yet as it was serviced when I bought it but it tells you how to reset the service display in the owners manual hopefully you have more luck with yours i had a few teething problems with mine sorted now though well near enough touch wood

Oh kool, nice cars I am very impressed with mine I must say. What sort of problems did you encounter? I am trying to keep this highly maintained so that I get as little problems as possible.
Is always good to service the car yourself for piece of mind as I don't no if the person who had it before looked after it properly as they had it on long life servicing which is a load of ****** because no car should have to go 20,000 without an oil change. Rant over lol

What is your interior like?

1.8t on long life for 80k? how many oil changes has it got in the book? less than three changes and the carbon build up is already there. nothing you can do, your guna have problems at some point with blocked oil pick up at some point.

Surely a standard air filter would be sufficient seeing as the car is standard. Also is the K&N not coated in light oil which affects the MAF eventually.

Car has had five oil changes per the service book as one owner did do an intermediate service. I will be changing oil every 6-8 months, for the cost of 5
litres of oil it is worth it.

It would definitely be worth checking out the breather system as mine was chock full of brown and yellow gook

Also the oil pickup pipe would be worth changing, not an easy job

Check my started threads for pics and details on what I did to mine

thats good then, keep up the changes and it should stay pretty clean and trouble free inside.

Yeah I had oil pickup pipe blockage but lucky enough I stopped straight away and got it sorted also coil packs failed after changing plugs but there not expensive and also crank case breather valve which I replaced not a bad job actually just no space to work and now reverse lights stopped working so trying to find reverse switch to check wiring hopefully that'll be it for a while.mine only on 70k so il do big service with belts etc around 76k ish

Right I have purchased most of the stuff needed for my service

K&n panel filter
k&n oil filter
pollen filter from ap filters
ngk iridium spark plugs

Just need to find a real decent oil any suggestions what I should run in my 2004 b6 1.8T?
was thinking to use 0w40 Mobil 1 new life but unsure if this would be ok.
also where can I purchase a magnetic sump plug?
last thing I am looking to buy some good lube for the locks and hinges but have no idea where to purchase one from?

Thanks guys + girls

As above TPS have all service and lube parts available........and a lot cheaper than main agents like Halfords etc

Where is tps mate or is it a website?
Also can someone just confirm what is best oil to put in my engine 5w40 am I correct?
thanks

Its a Volkswagen trade parts specialist.......in short a glorified dealer parts desk to trade, but some places also allow club accounts to be created.

So does this club have an account? Because if not I can't use it right?

It's not a club, it's a supplier of parts to the trade. How amenable they are to retail sales seems to vary from branch to branch, you don't need an account to shop there, you can be a private customer too.

Sorry wasn't clear I meant club as in the forums, I will give them a ring sat morning and see if they will let me buy from the. As that will be more than helpful for future purchases also

Do yourself a favour and whip the sump off and change your oil pickup pipe and oil pump.

The 1.8t sline 190 I bought had had oil changes at approx every 7k and it still had problems.

That is my next job after the service just gota get the money for parts as at same time I'm gona change the bushes for suspension.

One last thing guys as I have nearly all the service stuff except the oil which is needed for the gearbox? Which one do I need to get? Is there a decent one which is better than normal?

use 5 w 30 oil mate and your best off changing it every 5k or 6 months, if yours has only had 5 oil changes definitely dont use any engine flush, it will block your pick up pipe and cause alot of problems, your probably best off not servicing it yet and getting the sump off, changing the oil pick up pipe and checking all the breather system, you will be surprised how much crap is actually in there, then once that is done start on your servicing.

As for the panel filters i have a pipercross one and never had any problems but i dont use any oil as the oil wrecks the maf,

Right pabs thanks first of all, I am definetly going to take your advice as definetly don't want problems as I am one for preventive maintenance to stop all the bad expensive things going.

I am no mechanic I must say but am competent as use to do a lot of work on my old starlet everything than rebuild the engine, if I wanted to do this I understand I have got to remove the bar under the sump first of all to gain access in which case I need to secure the engine from dropping so do I need to hold it up somehow like resting it on axle stands or something like that. Is there a walk through for this somewhere as will need it to take this on. Or is it self explanatory when I have sump off. A picture of the inside would be great if Amy one has one. If I have to take it somewhere I will but really I don't want other people touching my car as I like to learn. A list of all parts needed would be great to like what gaskets or seals are needed?

Any input would be highly appreciated as sounds like a big job?
thanks

Just an update to thread, serviced the car on Saturday and actually it was extremely easy. The only ****** being I think the person before asked the hulk to come round and tighten the oil filter up as was literally welded on there. If anyone needs any advice on how to service there b6 1.8 t then just leme no.
I performed:
Oil filter
oil change
Air filter
pollen filter
fuel filter
spark plugs
coolant
lubed all door hinges and locks
changed arb bushes and drop link bushes
and while I was down there I got a feel for the sump dropping coming soon to change that strainer

Cheers for all ya help on this subject helped a lot car now runs perfect and even get more mpg
