The clutch this weekend has given up, its been juddering for a little while now and i have been nursing it, but connecting the caravan up has pushed it over the edge, its now juddering quite badly upon set-off and changing gear 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Im looking around for the best price for parts. £496 from euro car parts at the moment using clutch15 to get a discount. Have looked at gsf although is 50 miles from me and they want £649 for the parts, cant find a discount code for them though.

should have said those prices are for the clutch and flywheel

Does anyone have any links to genuine parts places they trust that may come in cheaper?

Thanks for the help

The clutch on mine is juddering also but only setting off in 1st - same engine and gearbox as you.
Its been like that since I purchased it and not really become any worse so like you i'm being kind.

Would you consider changing from the dual mass flywheel to single mass?
I began searching for one but as I wasn't really in a rush I gave up (adamss24 may be able to shed some light?)

If the clutch kit is by a reputable brand like LUK I wouldn't have a problem choosing them over genuine parts.

are you sure its clutch judder and not propshaft judder?

I have heard of a few quattros suffering from prop judder before I cant remember what caused it though I seem to think one of the mounts had come loose/snapped

worth a look before you shell out for the clutch?

Thanks stu for the help, Before this weekend the judder was only after a good run when everything was hot, which i am told is the dual mass flywheel getting worn, but it started to judder on setting off Friday am then putting the caravan on really enhanced it, also when you push the clutch pedal you can hear what sounds like a scrapping noise as if the plates are rubbing together so i am pretty sure that the clutch is fubar.

Alex im not brave enough to alter this to smf. As far as i can trace its on its first clutch and flywheel so if this goes for another 140k il be quite happy

Just thought I would stick a spanner in the works lol as its free to check it out and carries similar symptoms

Your not too far from me either im just up the road in hull!

yeh i see your in hull, im sat at work in hull at the moment. its always worth Knowing a few local lads, Do you work in the motor trade?
I dont but sometimes wish i did. Just had the first prices come back, Bob trice motors at 1150 including parts and another at 758 including part, the difference is amazing

No I dont but wish I did

I started a apprentiship in heavy plant fitting when I left school and sacked it off because the money was crap! 15 years down the line I wish I had stuck to it! Although I always do all my own work on everything I own, I have been brought up with a spanner in my hand so know a thing or two!

If you are getting the work done by a garage there is a place at the top of anlaby road near the old nettos who is a VW/Audi specialist might be worth giving him a try? If you go straight up anlaby road to the round about that splits to boothferry road turn right to stay on anlaby road and as you come off the round about he is the first left

I dont know anyone that has used him though

by the way I have full VCDS if you ever need a scan of anything :)

I may take you up on that offer from time to time, I have a pal out near York that's quite heavily into the VAG scene, mainly Golf mk1 at the moment, had about 7 of them when i last saw him, he does the scanning for me but is getting so busy its hard to catch him.

Do you mean Autotechnica as the place you recommended, im just waiting for a call back from them.

Started a national row between one of the garages and euro car parts. apparently i can get the parts around £150 cheaper on the internet than the garage can get them and its free delivery also.

Labor will always be the costly part of this job - I believe it is quite time consuming on the V6 Quattro.

Keep us updated with your quotes.etc - will come in handy for the future.

Will do mate best at the mo is i get the parts for £498 (euro car parts)and fitting will be £220 + vat they say its a 7.8 hour job
and a tenner extra for new gearbox oil fully synthetic

no its not them I cant remember the name of the place its only small like a little back street garage

The cheapest you're going to get the clutch done for is around £650. That's using quality parts such as Sachs or LUK. Had my 1.8T done earlier this year and that's what it cost me with supplying my own parts. I paid £410 for the 3 piece clutch kit and the DMF then £240 fixed price labour at VW rescue in Wombourne (I knw that you're in Yorkshire, but it gives you an idea of cost)

£410 is a good price for the parts, i cant see me getting much better than 758 all in plus ive now talked them into doing an aircon service aswell for the same price

I would only use genuine VAG gearbox oil and if you look on carparts4less you can really get a bargain then pay the labor to fit !

Recently paid £900 inc vat for clutch and flywheel supplied and fitted at autotechnik ( Audi specialist) in west mids.

parts ordered luk clutch kit and dual mass flywheel £465 delivered from carparts4less.co.uk just thought id say for future reference

If you used the promo code save5 you could have saved a further 5% and you can split the order in 2 separate transactions !

I see you already knew of the saving code ! Good prices regardless !

Just an update for anyone in the future, the cheapest way that i found was to buy the parts and have them fitted £465 delivered for dual mass flywheel and clutch LUK stuff, and £220 + vat for fitting including the gear box oil.

The old release bearing was shot and the clutch was worn, dual mass was found to be shagged also
now its a dream to drive almost stamped the pedal through the floor the first time i pushed it ;)

To be honest with you i never had to change a DMF on a v6 tdi as they are very strong jobbies. I don't know what your model has (could be the self adjusting clutch type from LUK) but i have clutches and flywheels in my shed with over 200k on them and they are still tight and within spec. My allroad does complain a little after a very hard drive but the clutch was still ok when i rebuilt the engine + the flywheel had no major play in it. It also done 80-100k of hard towing but i have a new clutch in the shed, probably will sell the car on the original clutch if i'm honest ! It's also running a little more power than it left the factory with !
Good to hear you're happy with the car again !

Thats good news!
Where did you take it to get done? - I would be tempted to get mine done there for that price.
After all, its only one road away (M62!)

give mr clutch a call good price on them with fitting
