Haha! I remember when I broke my dipstick. The part where it attaches was black and oily and it wasn't obvious how the thing attached. I was scared id ruined the engineI then found it was a £3 part and took 5 mins to fit. Yay.

Lol seems it's happened to most people on here, at least it's only a £3 part as you say
Also new stat has been fitted, my MPG has doubled! Instead of 360 miles on a full tank I got 290 miles on half a tank, seeing as it never get's hot, I'm assuming the car goes into "heat mode" or whatever they call it where it dumps more fuel in to get the car hot but as it never get's up to temperature it's always dumping fuel in.
