Removing glass from wind mirrors

Have just bought a set of aluminium wing mirror covers for my 2003 model A4 Cabrio. I reckon I need to remove the glass to enable me to remove the mirror caps - any ideas/tips on how I do this without breaking the glass??!!

yea ive reemoved mine just poing them up wards and get ya mits uder the bottom and give them a hard pull, the first pull is agressive the the rest of the clips just fall off!
