    Shell - V Power vs Regular Diesel

    Hi,

    I am in two minds whether to fill up with V Power or not as I have heard that the V power returns more mpg, makes the engine run smoother and less noisier, less black smoke and ofcourse good for injectors etc.

    My question is are any of this true? Are there any noticeable gains with the Shell V Power diesel over Shell Regular diesel?

    DieSel work very differently to petrol's, they have throttles, spark Plugs and lambda sensors all to help fuel the engine.
    Diesels have injectors, a sort of timing and a driver with a right foot! The driver puts his foot on the accelerator and that controls how much diesel is pumped into the engine, unlike a petrol where the throttle controls throttle plate angle. So in a diesel, the more fuel you pump in, the more air goes in and the more power you make. Now if you fill up with a better diesel , for the same amount of pedal request you get more power( in basic terms) so if you normal drive at 60 with regular diesel and say you use x pedal and y diesel for the better diesel to get 60 on the same road etc you need less X pedal and thus less Y fuel and there's your saving! If you boot it, it will make f-all difference but driving sensibly and the same as you would before Definately will save fuel, but whether you save per gallon between the 2 v cost of the fuel .

    All of what he said, but for the extra cost involved to buy the v-power against the gained miles is to be questioned, so i think the real question is will your car go any faster ? you may feel a slight difference at take off but you wont be able to go any faster than the gear box will let you, so if you ask me its not really worth it, but fill up your car and see for your self ,

    I don't regularly use V power but when I do, I do notice a small difference, slightly smoother and little bit more torque.
    There are differences in the fuel like anything else there is cheap and more expensive and to coin a phrase " you get what you pay for". I certainly never use supermarket fuel as its the lowest grade and in the long run will most likely do more harm than good.

    i used to use v power and add millers with it to when i had a a4 tdi makes it smooth as hell to drive

    Straight after my initial post, I went and filled up my Audi A4 1.9 TDI with Shell V Power...it's too early to comment on the MPG but I can definitely say now my Audi feels like it has more torque on the low revs and alot smoother! :D

    To be honest I never expected to see any immediate results but I am actually overwhelmed by the very little performance gain that I've noticed and all this time I thought it was all a myth

    Personally I've found the V-Power experience to be a placebo, I ran the car for two months on V-Power (I usually use Shell anyway) and found no noticeable improvement in performance or MPG.

    Going back to the supermarket fuels, I had a slight issue with my A4 being as lumpy as hell for a second or so when started. After checking loads of things, turned out it was sh**y Tesco diesel, put decent stuff in, problem gone..

    I have never tried tesco diesel in this car but a few years ago when I had a petrol I would get about 100 miles less per tank when using tesco petrol compared to any other fuel! since then I will not use it,

    If you want better MPG and more power from fuel alone get a gas conversion yes they do them for a diesel they mix a percentage of LPG in to the air intake and it gives you a lot more bang and a lot more power

    With the extra power you use less throttle so you save fuel but if you use the extra power all the time ie boot it all over you will just burn more fuel

    100 100 100% makes a difference...

    i always put 20pound in.... regardless so the only varible is the amount of fuel that goes in.....

    20pound of regular.. supermarket or BP fuel returned 100miles on my 2.5tdi v6 180bhp remap
    20pound of Vpower diesel... i now get 120miles as long as i dont drive hard all the time.. mixed driving like above returns an extra 20miles and the car has far better pick up.. any mapped car in my opinion should be running decent fuel

    It's very interesting to see everyone has different opinion whether the Shell V Power is worth the extra pennies or not...

    Personally I never like filling up supermarket fuel into any of my cars. I'd travel the extra distance just to fill up from Shell...

    Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe fuel stations such as Shell and BP supply quality fuel?!

    I always use 2 tanks of normal then 1 tank of ultimate bp diesel this is because I work and deliver the stuff I brought my car with a slight lumpy tick over I know the geez a only used tesco fuel when I use bp or shell the probs have now gone.. If I use supermarket fuels I'm about 50-60 miles a tank down...plus they don't use additives like the well.known fuel joints..

    now sold but still in the family, gone back in time to the cupra R again..

    I only fill the S4 on v power petrol and always have done since the day I bought it, and theres only a couple of quid difference in a full tank, I presume tis would be the same for diesel? so if its better for your engine alone, without the exra miles per gallon and power I think its worth it.

    I would have thought it will be similar difference in price for the diesels too, but then again I havn't done a full tank yet lol.

    For me V Power Diesel has made a difference in the way it drives now, but I suppose it depends on individual cars...

    I don't believe there are any significant power or MPG gains out of this but for the sake of a few extra pounds per tank full. I'd rather protect my engine and injectors and use V-Power because of the added additives in the fuel.
