S4 going into safe mode...

I have a 2004 S4 when you put the key in the on position the insrument cluster says safe were the mileage should be And will start for a second or two and cut out is there any easy way to sort this ?

Scan the car for faults.
Have you dropped your key?

Get it scanned with VCDS, where are you from?

Someone should be able to help, check the VCDS Users Map in the VCDS section
