Why does my s4 use about a litre of oil about every 1000 miles?

do you have a leak? could be valve cover gaskets leaking, valve stems or even the dreaded cylinder wall scoring. Thats well within audi's allowance. If you're worried get a compression test done. I think its when its to 1 litre every 500 miles you have to start worrying. Mine use to use 1 litre every 2k.

Well it varies, from 1000 to 3000 miles.. Depending on what I top up with. No leaks, just had a service and had a clean bill of health. I just wondered if this was relativley normal for these engines? Cheers

1 litre per 1000 miles is about what i thought it was. Any better then its a bonus and any worse then its worth getting things checked.

I also think audi say that 1 litre per 1000 miles is within tolerance.
