Hello everyone, the immobilizer is flashing on my car. Everytime I start the car it runs for a second and instantly dies.
My friend was able to retrieve the errors.
Does anyone know if the problem is related to Instrument cluster or ECU?
By the way it is a 2002 Audi A4 3.0liter V6 Quattro.

I've had this before although it was intermittent just once every 2 weeks or so

I changed the batteries in the fob and its been fine since which is really odd as the chip doesn't use the battery! So no help really!

Thats a shed load of errors tbh whic stands to reason a power problem.

Have a look at the battery treminals & grounding point to the chassis, see if its corroded.

Yes its the immo blocking the start, what people need to realise is, on most cars, immo & remote lock systems are completely independent from eachother, so the guide above will not fix the issue at all, thats purely a guide for the remote locking side of things.

I suspect the power issues that may be present are causing the immo problems aswell.

the key reader may have packed in or the wire joining the keyreader
iv had that a few times

Thanks for the input guys. I purchased this car from a private seller. The relays under the ECU were burned out. I replaced them and was able to start the car. The immo light has been flashing since I bought it.
I checked all of the fuses (on the driver side panel) and they are fine.
I found an aftermarket fob I believe under the seat. I am not sure if it is related to immobiliser or not. The battery inside is corroded. I will try replacing both batteries.
Does anybody know how can I access the key reader wires? Is it a common problem on B6 A4's?

god knows what that remore is for
prob from a diffrent car
if car starts it wont be the wire from key reader id clear all the codes and rescan see what it comes back up with

I pulled the instrument cluster and found this.
The cluster is obviously not original.
My car was manufactured in 05/02
How come the cluster was made in 05/01 ??

We tried and cleared the codes, but every time we scan it the same codes pop up.

if that is not the original cluster then it will cause a whole host of issues as a lot of the electronics specific to your car and ecu etc are contained in the cluster microchips. As far as i know most things communicate to the cluster to get an ok to work properly, A new cluster has to be coded in properly using vag-com. It maybe the cluster was swapped trying to fix previous problems by someone not really in the know.
I would contact the number on the sticker first and get them to check why they have a sticker onyour cluster and what they did

I contacted them and they are junk yard.
The previous owner was having problems with dead pixels therefore he bought a used one.
Can I pull the SKC code via VAG Commander 5.5?
Or do I have to take the car to the dealer? Is there a way to disable the immo? I contacted APR and other tuners they say that they can't do an immo defeat on 3.0liter engines, only 1.8T.
I don't care about the alarm or immo feature, I just want the car to run.

Went to the dealer, spoke with the SA, he told me that in the past they have had problems regprogramming used clusters because the clusters that were installed didn't match the options that the car had. They want $330 for reprogramming the cluster, because it is labor intensive for their technicians...and He also mentioned that they may not be able reprogram it...It all depends on the cluster.
Part number of the cluster that my car had is 8E0-920-980-KX. My price is $920 plus they want my core return.
If there is a way to kill the immobiliser please let me know, I am so sick of this car.

you can have the immo wrote out not sure if anyone does it in the usa tho

IMHO I dont believe what they're telling you, if its the same cluster part number or superceded, then tbh it should code up perfectly normal with just the mileage needing corrected externally, as options are coded afterwards when the cluster is coded to the immo, I mean you couldnt makeup this BS IMHO.

330 bucks for potentially coding an cluster seems excessive, its a 10-20 minute job with road test of 10-20 minutes, so hows that labour intensive, as its just literally unbolt the trim or cluster, then lift out, swap over & code, bolt in & test, its an easy job with, if they know there beans an hour at most charge.

You need to do more of your own research.

This is the corp that make the chips for the remote, which is just a leyless entry remote so could very well be for that car.

Active Control :: Corporate Profile

This is the remote in question.

Keyless Entry Remotes at Remote Superstore

So where are you at with it at the moment, as in, you replaced the relays, says it starts but does it stay running, have you cleared the errors shown now the relays have been replaced, then you can work on the errors left over.

It starts but immediately dies. The immobolizer light keeps flashing.
I replaced all of the relays under the ECU box. Cleared the errors, but the same errors return.
The remote that I found is not related to my audi at all.
Is there a way to check that the ECU is working properly?
I have 3-4 different tools for reading the SKC but none of them is working...The error that I get is ECU not found

If you still have all these errors, then you need to trace them 1st imho, could be the the relays have been fried which inturn has damaged some wiring & possible modules like the central electrics board, as to fry all those relays at once needs a fair amount of load, which I can only wonder what other damage its done.

My friend cleared the codes again and here is what we got.
Strangely enough the VIN numbers don't match.

I'm just restating whats already been advised, you will need to spend some time tracking down the issues, to many errors to be of help via the forum, needs hands dirty & maybe some spare modules to test with, eg. CE board.
