Glow plug light flashing!!!

[-]Im hoping this isnt what I think it is as it sounds like il be in for an expensive fix if it is.

But following on from my other thread when my ESP and ABS light comes on after braking, today, my glow plug logo has started flashing!!


I have just discovered my tdi130 hasnt had the recall done on it... but im hoping this is purely circomstantial and not that the ecu has started to short out.


So.... lets hope for the best, my glow plug light is flashing.. what does it mean?[/-]

Now I dont have the tools do this, and like i say the recall hasnt been done.

So if I now took my car to audi would they do the above fix for me basically? if not, what exactly will they do?

No they dont work as it turns out...

But if you read the thread its clear I have all the symptoms so it has to be more than that

or as I found out, if the lights work it could be the accelerator assembly (3 screws and a plug to fix £62.34 parts)

Personally I'd fit a new brake pedal switch and then see whether the faults remain.

What James said x2. I've read both threads and I had exactly the same problems. Got it to my local indy mechanic. £34 job done.

so you all think that its probably not water related as my car has yet to have the recall, and that its just the switch failing of its own accord?

I would certainly be relieved if thats true! But its just going on the symptoms Im concerned about my ECU frying....?

i dose seem brake switch is common that way mate and if you call audi they can tell you if your car was on the list to be recaled for the drain plug problem mine was not and has never had any water in mine at all so this was not a problem for all audis and if it was on yours you would have water in the car on the passenger side by there feet and you onlyhave to look by your battery to see if its full or not ifthat is the problem its coverd by audi i think.

I have a mate who works at Audi who told me when I purchased it it deffo had the recall due on it.

Thanks all il order up the switch, and try to take a look under the bonnet tomorrow.

I have rubber foot matts currently and have seen no water on them- so can I just check that the water should be falling from the dash on the top of these where I would notice? or would it seem from the bottom and therefor my matts the evidence?

id think you would see it under the matt as it would run down under it. and if your car is in for a recall call audi and they should book it in asap

Great, my local audi has it in stock so im going to get the brake pedal switch at lunch.

This may be silly but again I just want to check- my ESP and ABS light only come on after breaking- however my glow plugs light flashes after about 5 seconds of the car running. Is it still likely they are linked?

Just out of interest how much are replacement glow plugs likely to be?

The glow plug light can come on with the faulty brake light switch... don't ask me why..!

OEM glow plugs cost me £13 each last time I bought some.

Well bizzarly the glow plug symbol has completely stopped flashing :S

Anyway, So iv got the switch, but desipte receiving the instructions cant actually figure out where it goes!

So, which one of you lovely people would like to circle what Im replacing.....



I suspect its one of the two things at the left- but which one!?

you already have bud, its just the document is veig as to where to locate it and the diagram pictures of it doesnt really help!

Oh and james just to go into more info on that point- the instructions go into a diagram drawing of the part im at now, but the problem is that it appears that these may be for LHD cars as it shows this switch being above or near ish to the OBD plug that is left hanging, however I cant see anything that looks remotely close to this near that, but on the other side (2nd picture) there are TWO plugs both which look identical but should be this, so I need to know if it is the left one or right one or if im looking in the wrong place!

Can someone whos done this before give me a hint??

I had same prob, changed pedal switch which cured the side prob of no acceleration when the ESP came on but now lights come on when temp drops below 5 degrees???? However when you do engine self check on start up nothing shows up!!!! Is there a known prob linking these lights to temp sensor or sumfin??
