I'd first remove the rubber boot between the door and the A pillar and try cleaning the connector underneath as these can get full of crap. This usually results in intermittant problems which go away when you jack the volume right up, but it could also give a low volume all the time. Also pull the HU and check the brown ISO connector on the back, ensure it is firmly plugged in. While your there you can snip one of the skinny leads paired with the fat leads which will kill the awful centre dash speaker and improve the sound no end.

Alright, will try to clean the cables and will let it know how it turned out.
About the center speaker,i don't think there is one in there,i'm not using a standard radio.
Something i don't get is why i have lower soundvolume on the left and my his Passat B5.5 has the exact same problem.
It used to keep playing but the last weeks i got no audio on the left front.A little wack against my door and its fine again .
*edit ;its left hand drive btw so the drivers speaker
