Hope somebody can help - Central Conv issues

Hope you are all well.

I usually post up quite a bit in the A3 but have a specific problem with a mate's 2002 Audi A4.

This problem has been going on a while and am at a loss of what to do...

Long story short, the back doors on this A4 dead-bolted and failed to open when unlocked. Had the Central Convenience module checked out and repaired. It had an issue with one of the chips on the board. Another ECU was then used to clone on to my mate's A4 module. Plugged the ****** back in and it worked... hooorah. All doors unlocked and did everything it didn't before.

All was fine, then the car was doing weird stuff. Indicators wouldn't flash on lock or unlock, interior lock button didn't work, when a door was open the DIS would show the opposite door as open, interior lights wouldn't come on when opened.

Sooooo, I thought enough was enough and got another ECU from a breakers yard on the cheap. Plugged in and ensured all the coding was correct and thought all was good. However the car will not let me re-code any new keys (It's as if the car forgot it has the remote function) Passenger door won't unlock. It does however flash, correct DIS display and unlock with the interior lock button.

Also another strange thing is that the DIS displays Brake warning when the car has started... This is new.

So to eliminate some problems, I changed the battery in both remotes and still it wouldn't recode the keys. Even tried wiping the ECU to forget its previous keys. I also plugged the old ECU back in and the car will still not code any keys.

Im usually pretty good with coding and know quite a bit about the ECUs etc, but gotta admit, i need help with this one.

Have you tried a replacment convenience module?

If they get water damage from blocked plenum chamber drains or similar the effects can be very random.

Yep... The module has been changed as per my first post.

Like you say, they are prone to water ingress but this had none (I thought it would have been due to the signs)

I've just reread your first post, it mentions the module being repaired rather than replaced, unless I'm missing something.

I would have thought you would see signs of water ingress, it's not something I've experienced first hand luckily.

Yeaaa, I got another module from a breakers yard after the repaired one started doing funny things.

Have seen water ingress in other cars. Looks like a small pond sometimes.

Always happens, offer to help a mate out and it well an truly bites you on the backside. Just wanna get it sorted now.

Figured it out, thought I'd let everybody know.

Basically the new ECU I put in the A4 was a newer unit on the previous one and so had updated software. Turns out that the key will only work with a certain version of software. Popped to Audi and borrowed a spare key kicking around that would work with the software on the ECU.

Moment of truth... Coded the key to the car with the existing blade and BOSH. Car remote now works and does everything as it should!! Good times!!
