Temp gauge

I have a 1.8t sport convertible, and the temperature gauge has began playing up. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Any ideas what I need to change?

I had the exact same fault on my A4, used to randomly jump up then flop down when driving and sometimes just stay dead

Got a new temp sensor gauge from GSF for about £16 and fitted in an afternoon and everything has been tip top since

I found it easier to remove all the clips and replace with shiney new jubilee clips

As above, mine was faulty and I had it sorted by Euro Performance whilst I was having a remap - it was pretty cheap tbh

Obvious things would be temp sensor and thermostat.....
