Hello,

I'm looking at purchasing an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Sline in the new year. I was hoping members with the same car could share what problems they have incurred during their ownership and what costs due to these problems.

Thanks
Ross

I think there was a coil-pack recall on all of these. Check it's been done.

Check the drivetrain for shuddering - can indicate problems on the quattro - never seen it myself, but I think there's something to do with when you pull off / put it in reverse and declutch.... mine is as smooth as anything and it's an early (2001) quattro.

There's a few general issues that some people have water-logged battery bay causing footwell flooding. I'm sure peopel will share a few stories on here, but most are very fixable - those 1.8T engines are pretty much bullet proof, but the clutch may have taken some wear if it's been remapped + carelessly driven.

Check the cam service history: originally it was quoted as 40k/5yrs, I think the revised timelines from Audi are every 75k/5yrs... so normally every 5yrs. That's £500 from Audi since it's a 4-cylinder engine (>50% for 50% more cylinders!).

I have had mine since Late 2008 and have had only coilpack problem's. Audi sorted this out for FREeee as all 1.8T's were recalled.. Service every 6 months, do NOT have or go for long life srvice plan..

look out for sludge if it been on the long life service plan, as with any vw/ audi 1.8t

Mechanically, mine's been solid since buying it in Feb this year ... but have had a few niggles :

Airbag light appeared on the dash after moving the seat, apparently the connectors can be sensitive - Ive since had this cut and soldered to avoid any future issues.

Temp Sensor failed - no temp reading on gauge - didnt affect performance tho

ABS / ESP light on dash - this was due to 2 blown bulbs on the brake lights, which I didnt know about at the time.

Tempramental indicator stalk - liked to indicate left occasionally when asking for right lol - replaceded the stalk and works great now.

The above sounds like a lot, but really they were minor niggles, and pretty cheap to rectify, tho I used a specialist for all the work, who are fantastic btw.

I love the 1.8T tho, its a great engine :)
